    Glucose is seen as something that only diabetics need to think about. WRONG! Glucose is becoming more and more apparent as a true marker of health. Too much of it over a prolonged period of time can lead to insulin resistance, can impact your inflammation, and impact mood, brain fog, weight gain, and ultimately (potentially) things like Alzheimers (which is now being called "Type 3 Diabetes"). Today we are talking about the importance of glucose for healthy people with Dr. Casey Means. Dr. Casey is a a fantastic Stanford trained physician, ENT surgeon, nutritionist, and now cofounder of a new biowearable company that helps track you glucose levesls.   • 9. Healing Women's Physical Trauma with Dr. Meghan Helwig

    Have you ever thought of how you physical trauma (low back pain, headaches, etc.) are linked to emotional trauma? Today we are talking about physical pain with Dr. Meghan Helwig, a sought out Doctor of Physical Therapy based in Southern California but seeing clients all over the nation. But in truth that does not give her justice – she more of a physical therapist, a coach, a philosopher, sister, and psychologist rolled into one. She approaches pain not just from the acute place of injury, but rather also looks at your environment - relationships, how you breath, your daily habits, etc. She looks to understand not only your pain, but where you body is in terms of mobility, stability and strength. This conversation of physical pain stemming from emotional or past physical trauma (e.g., giving birth, having surgery on your trunk area, etc.) is important. I love that Meghan also intertwines the importance of breathwork into her practice (did you know that you breath 20,000 times a day?!?!). In Meghan's eyes, breath is paramount to the healing journey, which is something that many PTs will not tell you or not ask you about.     Birth control impacting more than just whether you can have a child?!? Say what!Today we are talking about birth control with the brilliant evolutionary psychology researcher, Dr. Sarah Hill. She's a professor and researcher who 's focus shifted to something that she happened upon when she realized it was impacting her own life - birth control. Her book provides an extremely even look at the Pill - the pros and cons, and how it has changed how we think, who we are attracted to, and even has larger implications on society as a whole. Sarah has more than 50 scientific publications and research grants to her name and she's been featured in publications from the Scientific American to the Economist to the Washington Post. What I love most about her book, "This is your brain on birth control: the surprising science of women, hormones, and the law of unintended consequences" is that Sarah is not prescriptive or judgemental about it.
