WHAT HEROES DO...
ABIDING: A Trauma Recovery Podcast
A very warm welcome to a new episode of ABIDING: The Trauma Recovery Podcast brought to you by the WHAT HEROES DO PODCAST NETWORK. This time around, we return to the words of one of our heroes, director Kevin Smith and how a double whammy of traumatic events in his childhood affected his whole life. Even the smallest remark from someone can stay with us forever and shape how we grow - but it is up to us to face up to these events and find our way to recover - and Kevin offers a wonderful way of going back in time to comfort your young self.
We also welcome a very special guest, Dr Tim Russell, General Practitioner to the Network. The man who helped Your Host find his path to recovery from his Abandonment Trauma. Did you know PAIN and SHAME Centers of the Brain are incredibly close? Us neither, as Dr Russell explains how past trauma may cause long term chronic pain in the form of the condition known as Fibromyalgia, as well as discussing other PSYCHOSOMATIC conditions. This is a must-listen!
Please share and give us feedback on the channels below on how we have or can help in the future. And remember to FLY HIGH NOT ALONE.

Research shows that there appears to be a clear scientific reason, that we can see at a cellular level. When muscles contract, they secrete chemicals into the bloodstream. Among these chemicals are myokines, which have been referred to as “hope molecules”. These small proteins travel to the brain, cross the blood-brain barrier, and act as an antidepressant. They do this by improving our mood, our ability to learn, our capacity for locomotor activity, and protect the brain from the negative effects of ageing. This has been referred to as “muscle-brain cross-talk” The secret to why exercise is so good for mental health? ‘Hope molecules’ | Devi Sridhar | The Guardian Devi Sridhar is Chair of Global Public Health at the University of Edinburgh.15.
