Episode 168- A Mystery Solved, A Mystery Gained

Season 4, Ep. 40

Welcome to What The Heck season 4! This podcast explores unexplained phenomena using stories gathered from various sources, then applies an academic research method to find theories and solutions for each one. So far, we've been unsuccessful in finding any concrete answers, but a few of the stories we've covered have been solved. Today, we're looking at the Buffalo Cave John Doe. This is a first for What The Heck?. A solved mystery that creates another mystery. Originally a torso found in 1979 and limbs found in 1990, the identity of the John Doe is actually Henry Loveless. But that discovery just leaves us with more questions. Who is Henry Loveless? What did he do? Who murdered him? Listen in to find out!

    01:52:56||Season 4, Ep. 46
    Welcome to What The Heck season 4! This podcast explores unexplained phenomena using stories gathered from various sources, then applies an academic research method to find theories and solutions for each one. So far, we've been unsuccessful in finding any concrete answers, but a few of the stories we've covered have been solved. Today, in the final episode of the season, we're diving head first into the history, myths, and modern views of witchcraft. The last deep dive episode was way back at the end of Season 1. This year, I took on an even bigger challenge- making the huge amount of information about witchcraft through the ages into an easily available resource. We're all over the place this week, looking at definitions, comparing beliefs, unpacking fictional depictions, and looking at the very real fear of witches across the Western World. Strap in, it's a long and bumpy ride! Where did witchcraft come from? Why was it so feared that it was made illegal? What happened during the witch trials? What's true and what's made up? This podcast explores unexplained phenomena using stories gathered from various sources, then applies an academic research method to find theories and solutions for each one. So far, we've been unsuccessful in finding any concrete answers, but a few of the stories we've covered have been solved. Today, we're looking at the Arizona Ghost Radio. A short episode this week, it's difficult to find much information on this mystery. What we know is that there's a mysterious radio station that can be found in Arizona. It's not a regular radio station- there are no adverts, just music and a sign off every hour. Some people say that it has mysterious messages that play, but that's simply not true. What music plays on this station? Where can it be traced to? Who is behind this mysterious station? 18:56||Season 4, Ep. 43
    Welcome to What The Heck season 4! This podcast explores unexplained phenomena using stories gathered from various sources, then applies an academic research method to find theories and solutions for each one. So far, we've been unsuccessful in finding any concrete answers, but a few of the stories we've covered have been solved. Today, we're looking at the disappearance and death of Mitrice Richardson. Not much can be found about Mitrice's early life, which doesn't matter much for this story, which starts in 2009 when Mitrice was 24. After visiting a Malibu restaurant and failing to pay, she was arrested and then released in the early hours of the morning. With no transport home to Los Angeles and nowhere to stay, reports of Mitrice's wanderings were soon reported. Before the day ended, Mitrice disappeared. The next year, her remains would be found in a remote area, near where she was last spotted. Why did Mitrice get arrested? Why was she released with no arrangements made? Who was misdirecting and complicating the investigation? 18:27||Season 4, Ep. 42
    Welcome to What The Heck season 4! This podcast explores unexplained phenomena using stories gathered from various sources, then applies an academic research method to find theories and solutions for each one. So far, we've been unsuccessful in finding any concrete answers, but a few of the stories we've covered have been solved. Today, we're looking at the Atlanta Ripper. Atlanta, Georgia has some fascinating history. At the head of the Civil Rights movement, and much earlier than the rest of the US, it was a hub for commerce and manufacturing. That changed in 1906, when a race riot broke out. Soon afterwards, perhaps just 3 years, maybe 5 years, a killer was on the loose, murdering black women just because they could. Over the course of several years, the murders stacked up, and a few suspects were arrested for their alleged crimes. How did Atlanta become Atlanta? Who was the first person to point a finger? Why has this case not been solved? Welcome to What The Heck season 4! This podcast explores unexplained phenomena using stories gathered from various sources, then applies an academic research method to find theories and solutions for each one. So far, we've been unsuccessful in finding any concrete answers, but a few of the stories we've covered have been solved. Today, we're looking at Gravity. This theory, universally taught as a fact, was first proposed in the 17th Century by Isaac Newton. It didn't come from nowhere though, since we'd been talking about space and how it worked for millenia. It has a long history with some very famous names from the field of science in it. What did Newton's theory miss out on? When does Einstein join in? Do we have answers yet?
