Episode 264 - The Punisher (1989)

Ep. 264

This week, Travis is joined by Tim "JayDimes" Wilson to talk about the actual first R rated film based on a Marvel comic. The Punisher. Released in 1989 starring Dolph Lundgren as Frank Castle, and Louis Gossett Jr. as Jake Berkowitz, and based on the Marvel comics character. So, how was this as an adaptation of the comic? Does it do the character justice? Or is it just another generic 80s action movie? And where is the iconic Skull logo? Let's find out...

  • 296. Episode 296 - Dr. Who and the Daleks

    01:29:59||Ep. 296
    This week Travis is joined once again by Ace aka Ash to discuss 1965's Dr. Who and the Daleks. It was the first feature film for Dr. Who, and the first version of the character in glorious Technicolor. The film is a slight departure from the "canon" of Doctor Who, as it was made just 2 years in to the show's initial broadcast run. It stars Peter Cushing as the eponymous Dr. Who, with his granddaughter's Susan and Barbara, and her boyfriend Ian. They visit a strange planet and encounter the Daleks for the first time. So, is this a fun 60s Sci Fi romp? Or better left off of your Whovian watch list? Let's find out...Check out Ash on stream playing Final Fantasy 14 at https://twitch.tv/realashcat/Thanks go out to Audie Norman (@TheAudieNorman) for the album art. • 295. Episode 295 - Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971)

    01:36:36||Ep. 295
    This week, Tim Lowe of The Horsegirls podcast is here to talk about his first time watching Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. He had maybe seen parts of it, but never watched it the whole way through. But how does it hold up seeing it for the first time as an adult? Did the tunnel scar him like it did Travis? Also, does it being a musical have anything to do with him not watching it before? And how good is Gene Wilder in this movie? Let's find out...Check out Tim on The Horse Girls Podcast with Alex and Jenna at https://horsegirls.club/Thanks go out to Audie Norman (@TheAudieNorman) for the album art. • 294. Episode 294 - Friday the 13th (1980)

    01:30:38||Ep. 294
    This week, Norm from 2 Nerds 1 Quest is back. He's never seen any of the Friday the 13th movies before. In fact, he hasn't even seen clips of them. He only knows of it from references in other movies (like Scream), so, we're fixing that. We are discussing the original 1980 film, Friday the 13th. Directed by Sean S. Cunningham, and staring Betsy Palmer and featuring a young Kevin Bacon. Does the movie that started the franchise hold up after over 40 years? Or is it a boring slog of a movie with dated stereotypes and tropes? Let's find out...Check out Norm on 2 Nerds 1 Quest, and actual play stream. • 293. Episode 293 - The Thing from Another World (1951)

    01:32:23||Ep. 293
    This week, Travis is joined by Steve (HewhoisSteve) of the Botched Podcast to talk about the 1951 film, The Thing from Another World. A huge inspiration to John Carpenter, who later went on to remake it as The Thing in 1982. But is that really a remake? It's more like a retelling of the novella Who Goes There? from 1938. Steve and Travis talk about adaptation in media, and how different eras can produce a very different film, but with similar stories. So, is it fair to call this movie an "unfaithful" adaptation? Let's find out...Check out Steve on Botched at https://www.botchedpodcast.com or anywhere you get your podcasts, and find him anywhere else as hewhoissteveThanks go out to Audie Norman (@TheAudieNorman) for the album art. It's spooky season, which means it is time for the annual GORE podcast takeover! Wicked, Fae, and Dread are here to talk about 2001's horror thriller, Frailty. Starring Bill Paxton in his directorial debut, it tells the story of a man and his two sons in Texas during the summer of 1979, when he is visited by an angel and now must destroy demons with the help of his boys and magical weapons? Or, maybe he's just completely lost it and is killing people and implicating his two young sons? It doesn't seem like he's got all his factulties here, or does he?
