VGMP: Videogame Movie Podcast

A short proof-of-concept movie based on Valve's popular puzzler videogame. A woman wakes inside a facility and desperately seeks escape with the help of a portal gun.

This one is a blast from the past! From the early days of VGMP when we were still recording sharing one very cheap microphone in Jamie's noisy front room. Chill out with this freshly polished re-release as Jamie and Rory discuss 90s technothriller Hackers. A dive into hacking subculture that appears to have been made by somebody as far removed from said subculture as possible. Rory has a soft spot for this one but will Jamie see its charms?

Jamie and Rory sit down to review an unusual piece of gaming media; a small feature in which WWE Superstar Xavier Woods travels to arcade cafe's and tries out various videogames.

Based on the popular 1990s series of PC games, this science-fiction thriller stars 90s favourites Freddie Prinze Jr and Matthew Lillard in a story that feels like a mash-up of Top Gun and Starship Troopers. However, the film seems to be focusing its attention in the wrong areas. Tune in to this episode as Jamie and Rory discuss where the film goes wrong and how it could be fixed.

In this week's DLC edition of VGMP, the boys look at this odd little promotional film that was released alongside Grand Theft Auto 2. Essentially a music video packed full of that late 90s quick cutting, headache inducing visual style.

DIC return to the podcast this week with another of their Saturday morning cartoons based on a videogame. This time around it's Captain N: The Game Master, a giant Nintendo commercial featuring appearances from all of the iconic Nintendo characters such as Mega Man, Kid Icarus, Simon Belmont and Super Ma-...oh, wait, what's that? Mario isn't in this? They didn't even get Luigi? Oh. What are we doing here then?

We love uncovering forgotten gems here on VGMP and this certainly ranks amongst them. Whilst he never stood with the likes of Sonic and Mario in the hall of platformer greats, Bubsy Bobcat had a few games in the early 1990s that were successful enough to warrant trying a cartoon based on the property. The result was this TV pilot that was not picked up for a full series. When you watch it, you'll understand why. This show is like an acid trip on the Vegas Strip.

The time has once again come for the boys to delve into the back catalogue of the most infamous video game movie director of all time, Raging Boll himself, Uwe Boll. No, your eyes don't deceive you, this movie does indeed star Sir Ben Kingsley in one of the biggest cases of "how the F*!K did that happen?" in the history of film. Clearly Ben was asking himself that question too because his performance here in unlike any performance you've ever seen him do. We promise.

The boys dip into one of Jamie's favourite franchises this week as they review the short tie-in web series "Bright Falls" released in 2010 alongside the original Alan Wake release. This low budget web series revolves around a man who visits Bright Falls and soon begins questioning his own sanity.
