VGMP: Videogame Movie Podcast

Wreck-It Ralph has often been described as Toy Story for the videogame age and that certainly seems to be an apt description when viewing this 2012 Disney movie. Featuring John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman and Jane Lynch, this takes us into the world of an arcade game villain feeling like he needs something more from his life. Whilst his fellow villains urge him to stay in his lane, Ralph finds himself breaking free of the confines of his game and role and thrust into new and unfamiliar territory.

The boys are back in Sega-land this week as they review the first few episodes of this animation based on Phantasy Star Online 2

From the VGMP vault comes this classic episode from a few years ago, the first Tekken property that we reviewed on the show! This CGI animated movie is absolutely crazy, at least to someone not familiar with the popular Playstation 1v1 fighter, though if it would be any different for fans of the series, we're not so sure...

After previously reviewing the Japanese take on a "Dead Rising" movie, this time the boys take a look at the first American effort. Produced for Crackle and starring Jesse Metcalfe (Desperate Housewives), Rob Riggle (Modern Family, The Office, a gazillion other comedies), Virginia Madsen (Candyman, Sideways) and Dennis Haysbert (24, Brooklyn Nine-Nine), the movie focuses on a young reporter caught in a quarantine zone after a deadly resurgence of the zombie virus. Teaming up with other survivors, he has to find a way out of the infected area before the US military decide to wipe away the problem with a tactical nuke.

It's always a wild time when the boys take on the work of Uwe Boll on this show and today they go right back to the beginning of Boll's infamous run of videogame adaptations as they review House Of The Dead.

Did you know they made a second DOOM movie? Jamie sure didn't until Rory sprung that one on him! You could be forgiven for not knowing about this ultra low-budget adaptation that seemingly got screwed by the studio. Yet it is also true that sometimes it is those films that face the most adversity come out with that extra special X factor that turns them into very enjoyable movies. Will that be the case for this intrepid little DOOM movie?

This one is a blast from the past. The episode that famously nearly made Jamie walk out on the show! Based on the underrated Sega Dreamcast game, this is the animated adaptation of Shenmue!

Once again the boys come head to head with Jamie's arch-nemesis Paul W.S. Anderson as he continues to produce movies titled "Resident Evil" that have no connection to the game series at all. Anderson returns to the director's chair as well as performing scriptwriting duties on this 4th instalment in the action franchise. After finding the third entry particularly bad, will Afterlife prove to be a fitting title for this new entry?

The boys once again return to the world of Halo in this episode of VGMP, this time reviewing Halo: Legends, an anthology of short animated films set around the Halo universe.
