VGMP: Videogame Movie Podcast

Our final new release of 2024, it's the third instalment of Paramount's Sonic franchise. Introducing Shadow The Hedgehog (Keanu Reeves) the film borrows elements from the classic Sonic Adventure 2 and sees the blue blur heading to space to stop Robotnik's most dangerous scheme yet.

One of the more unusual movies we've come across in our time doing VGMP (and that's saying something!) Final Fantasy XIV: Brave Father Online is a comedy drama movie based on the true story of a young man attempting to reconnect with his distant father by befriending him secretly in this online MMORPG.

On this week's DLC episode of VGMP we continue the build towards the release of Sonic The Hedgehog 3 with this short film set in the Paramount universe.

After the surprise success of their first outing, Paramount returned with Sonic The Hedgehog 2! Featuring Jim Carrey in a more game-accurate Robotnik costume, this film adds Sonics famous companions Tails and Knuckles to the mix, but perhaps at the risk of making some of the other characters feel redundant.

We're back in the world of anime now as we watch Bayonetta: Bloody Fate. An abridged adaptation of the first videogame in this trilogy, Bayonetta follows an Umbran witch on her quest to uncover the schemes of the Lumen Sages. This quest ultimately leads her to revelations about her own past and action-packed battles with heavenly creatures.

This one sure is a hidden gem! Released exclusively in Japan, this 1989 animated short combines Nintendo's famous plumber with a classic Japanese fairytale! How does it play for a Western audience in 2024 however?
