VGMP: Videogame Movie Podcast

TRIGGER WARNING: This movie and subsequently our conversation about it, touches upon themes that some people may find extremely disturbing.This is a difficult episode that, truth be told, we might have been better scrapping all together. Kung-Fu Master! is the only videogame movie so far to be deemed worthy of special release by The Criterion Collection, though upon watching it we discovered that it's ties to said videogame are very minimal. Instead this French movie explores the burgeoning romantic relationship between an adult mother and a teenage boy who is friends with her daughter. It's a difficult film to watch and one we found it particularly difficult to talk about. Please be aware that the subject matter may be disturbing for some people. 

Here's a forgotten relic; this anime adaptation is based on the 1987 beat 'em up videogame of the same name published by Namco. 

How exactly do you turn a fighting game franchise most known for it's implementation of....and we're not kidding here..."jiggle physics" (TM) into a blockbuster action movie? Well, somebody tried it, and since they did, Jamie & Rory had to watch it. 

Released as a promotional feature alongside Far Cry 3, this web series features Christopher Mintz-Plasse playing a fictionalised version of himself who finds his lovely tropical cruise interrupted by the arrival of Vas (Michael Mando)

VGMP returns to take a look at this Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson vehicle from 2018 which sees the eyebrow-raising, elbow dropping superstar thrust into a battle between three heavily mutated kaiju-like monsters. 

Jamie and Rory take a brief look at an internet comedy short that tells the story of two men engaged in a battle to top one another's high scores on a Pac-Man arcade cabinet. 

The late 1980s saw videogame media making its first steps into the realm of film and television and usually the results were, at best, ill conceived. Like this show featuring former wrestler Lou Albano as Mario in live action segments interspersed between an animated cartoon. Various celebrities of the time guest star but the show is perhaps best remembered for its pseudo-rap opening theme set to the original theme of the game!

A throwback to the classic early 90s animation style of the Sonic cartoon, Sonic Mania Adventures was a piece of tie-in media released alongside the popular retro-style game Sonic Mania.
