Therapy? - Troublegum

Season 0, Ep. 1

It's the very first of our Ko-Fi Member Selections and first up, from our good pal Ruddy Rutherford, is Therapy?'s 1994 release, Troublegum. The album was shortlisted for the 1994 Mercury Music Prize and is brand new to both Corey and Kev, so it was a brand new, fresh listen for both chaps! But what will Kev like a cover of a Joy Division song? Will Corey's North American rock sensibilities be challenged by a band from Norn Ireland? And where will the album finish in our overall rankings?

The only way to find out is to turn on, tune in, and forget about that!

Songs covered in this episode: "Knives", "Screamager", "Hellbelly", "Stop It You're Killing Me", "Nowhere", "Die Laughing", "Unbeliever", "Trigger Inside", "Lunacy Booth", "Isolation", "Turn", "Femtex", "Unrequited", "Brainsaw"

  • 2. Blondie - Side B

    01:23:24||Season 8, Ep. 2
    Kev and Corey discover their favourite song on the album is the same track, there's no Def Leppard news, which makes Kev very happy, and Corey pontificates on the value of percussive restraint. But, will our dynamic duo love a song about alient ants (free range, not farmed), will Corey take advantage of Kev's appalling performance in the season's game last week, and who the fuck is Ronnie Toast and what does he have to do with Blondie?The only way to find out is to turn on, tune in, and rip her to shreds!Don't forget to follow us on social media and leave us a rating/review if you're enjoying the show!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/UltimateCatalogueClashBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/ucatalogueclash.bsky.socialDiscord: https://discord.gg/mz9ymTwSSEKo-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/ultimatecatalogueclash
  • 1. Blondie - Side A

    01:28:16||Season 8, Ep. 1
    Six songs to kick off Side A from Blondie's debut. We discover that X Offender isn't about Trump and Epstein, but rather is a cautionary tale about falling in love (or lust) with your local copper! There's drum fills aplenty, a few mix issues, and we talk a fair bit about Debbie Harry's voice. But, will new wave surf rock tickle Corey's pickle? Will Kev had any damn clue what West Side Story is? And what in god's name does anti-dandruff shampoo have to do with this week's episode?The only way to find out is to turn on, tune in, and wear your best suit.Don't forget to follow us on social media and leave us a rating/review if you're enjoying the show!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/UltimateCatalogueClashBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/ucatalogueclash.bsky.socialDiscord: https://discord.gg/mz9ymTwSSEKo-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/ultimatecatalogueclash
  • Get Ready for Blondie

    49:52||Season 8, Ep. 0
    Iggy Pop recalls inviting Blondie to tour with him at a time when David Bowie was playing keyboards in his backing band. "Debbie was an American ponytail girl as seen through the lens of Roger Vadim; Barbarella on speed, or something like that."With Barbella on speed and Chris Stein right behind her, Blondie had all the ingredients to take on the world. But would internal friction pull the band apart? Would anyone take a blonde bombshell seriously as a frontwoman in a rock n roll band, and would Mike Chapman be able to polish these rough diamonds enough to see them dazzle the world?The only way to find out is to turn on, tune in, and call me.Don't forget to follow us on social media and leave us a rating/review if you're enjoying the show!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/UltimateCatalogueClashBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/ucatalogueclash.bsky.socialDiscord: https://discord.gg/mz9ymTwSSEKo-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/ultimatecatalogueclash
  • 12. Graceland

    01:47:58||Season 7, Ep. 12
    By the mid-1980s, apartheid-era South Africa was subject to a global cultural boycott, strongly advocated by the African National Congress (ANC) and supported by the United Nations. Musicians were explicitly asked not to perform, record, or collaborate in South Africa, regardless of intent. In 1984–85, Paul Simon traveled to South Africa to record with Black South African musicians, including members of Ladysmith Black Mambazo. He did not seek ANC approval beforehand and broke the cultural boycott in the process. But was it worth it? Did Simon accomplish anything creatively or culturally worth his bold contravention of the global attitude toward the South African regime? The only way to find out is to turn on, tune in, and call me Al.Don't forget to follow us on social media and leave us a rating/review if you're enjoying the show!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/UltimateCatalogueClashBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/ucatalogueclash.bsky.socialDiscord: https://discord.gg/mz9ymTwSSEKo-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/ultimatecatalogueclash
  • 15. Tall Tales (with Dave Lasseter)

    01:15:31||Season 7, Ep. 15
    We're joined by Crowes superfan and all round wonderful fella Dave Lasseter to pull apart Amorica and Tall and to chat about how good the Crowes were live! We also take a run at resequencing the album taking into account every track we have to choose from. Kev and Corey weren't hot on Cursed Diamond, so will Dave hang up the call? Will we get into any trouble for our edits, and will Corey finally open this damned treacle mine!The only way to find out is to turn on, tune in, and tell me where you have been.Don't forget to follow us on social media and leave us a rating/review if you're enjoying the show!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/UltimateCatalogueClashBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/ucatalogueclash.bsky.socialDiscord: https://discord.gg/mz9ymTwSSEKo-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/ultimatecatalogueclash
  • 14. Season 7 Finale (with Scott Haskin)

    01:48:47||Season 7, Ep. 14
    Our friend Scott Haskin is back to help us unpack season seven. We've covered a bunch of artists on this show that haven't resonated with Scott, so we're curious how this one will go! We have questions provided by the wonderful Dave Lasseter and we'll also find out who we'll be listening to in Season 8! Who can it be now?The only way to find out is to turn on, tune in, and shake your money maker.Don't forget to follow us on social media and leave us a rating/review if you're enjoying the show!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/UltimateCatalogueClashBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/ucatalogueclash.bsky.socialDiscord: https://discord.gg/mz9ymTwSSEKo-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/ultimatecatalogueclash
  • 13. By Your Side - Side B

    01:20:40||Season 7, Ep. 13
    Well, look at that. We've come (almost) to the end of another season. Today's episode wraps up the fifth album of our adventure with The Black Crowes. Kev was a big fan coming in, Corey was pretty sure he was a big fan coming in. We've had some high highs and a couple of low lows, but more than anything, we've had pretty good consistency! But, do those ingredients add up to a sauce that you can truly call awesome? Will By Your Side be the third Crowes album to crack our overall top ten? And will Kev salvage any sort of pride in this Season's game, despite already being mathematically unable to stop the Morrissette juggernaut?The only way to find out is to turn on, tune in, and watch it grow.Songs covered in this episode: "Heavy", "Welcome to the Goodtimes", "Go Tell the Congregation" ,"Diamond Ring", "Then She Said My Name", "Virtue and Vice"Don't forget to follow us on social media and leave us a rating/review if you're enjoying the show!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/UltimateCatalogueClashTwitter: https://twitter.com/UCatalogueClashBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/ucatalogueclash.bsky.socialDiscord: https://discord.gg/mz9ymTwSSE
  • 12. By Your Side - Side A

    01:32:59||Season 7, Ep. 12
    The Bears are into a wild card matchup with division rivals, the Packers. The Giants have confounded Corey's hopes yet again by being not quite bad enough to secure the first pick in the next NFL draft, and Canada go down 6-4 to Czechia in the World Junior Hockey Championships. And that's all before we've even mentioned the Black Crowes! We're starting the last album in this season of the UCC with this week's episode and it's hard to believe that we're almost done already. But will "HorseHead" make any sense to Corey or Kev? And will Corey make it through his current illness (sans hotel)?The only way to find out is to turn on, tune in, and go faster!Songs covered in this episode: "Go Faster", "Kickin' My Heart Around ", "By Your Side", "HorseHead", "Only a Fool"Don't forget to follow us on social media and leave us a rating/review if you're enjoying the show!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/UltimateCatalogueClashTwitter: https://twitter.com/UCatalogueClashBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/ucatalogueclash.bsky.socialDiscord: https://discord.gg/mz9ymTwSSE

    This week's Kofi episode is brought to you by our pal Josh Caldwell from The Engine Room podcast! We're digging out our amps and turning them up to ten and heading back to the Sunset Strip, kinda. George Lynch is an American guitarist, best known for his work with the hard rock/heavy metal band Dokken and his post-Dokken solo band Lynch Mob, whose debut album, "Wicked Sensation", we'll be covering today. He is regarded as one of the most renowned and influential metal guitarists of the 1980s, noted for his distinctive playing style and sound. But will Kev be impressed with the gallons of hoodala on offer and will Corey be back in his metal happy place?The only way to find out is to turn on, tune in, and blow your thoughts away.Songs covered in this episode: "Wicked Sensation", "River of Love", "Sweet Sister Mercy", "All I Want", "Hell Child", "She's Evil But She's Mine", "Dance of the Dogs", "Rain", "No Bed of Roses", "Through These Eyes", "For a Million Years", "Street Fightin' Man"Don't forget to follow us on social media and leave us a rating/review if you're enjoying the show!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/UltimateCatalogueClashTwitter: https://twitter.com/UCatalogueClashBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/ucatalogueclash.bsky.socialDiscord: https://discord.gg/mz9ymTwSSE
