Making Movies - Side A

Season 4, Ep. 6

“Give me my Romeo, and, when I shall die,

Take him and cut him out in little stars,

And he will make the face of heaven so fine

That all the world will be in love with night,

anyway, what you gonna do about it….?”

This is part of Juliet’s monologue in act 3, scene 2 of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet which premiered in 1597, as abridged by Mark Knopfler, 383 years later, in 1980.

Will Corey dig the change of pace? Will this be Kev's highest rated album side this season? Will David Knopfler be missed? Will someone tell that fucking dog to STOP BARKING!!?!?

The only way to find out is to turn on, tune in, and get crazy on the waltzers.

Songs covered in this episode: "Tunnel of Love", "Romeo and Juliet", "Skateaway"

  • 5. Communiqué - Side B

    01:46:59||Season 4, Ep. 5
    The pace finally picks up for Corey as we're reminded of the Sultans. We head back to London for a walk down the market streets and we get to use the word "circumnavigation". Will Kev have any issues with cake mixture? Will Corey have heard of the Cutty Sark and will he care at all about it if he hasn't?The only way to find out is to turn on, tune in, and turn up for the boots now...Songs covered in this episode: "Once Upon a Time in the West", "News", "Where Do You Think You're Going?", "Communiqué"Don't forget to follow us on social media and leave us a rating/review if you're enjoying the show!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/UltimateCatalogueClashTwitter: https://twitter.com/UCatalogueClashBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/ucatalogueclash.bsky.social
  • 4. Communiqué - Side A

    01:35:04||Season 4, Ep. 4
    Shit's about to get weird! Like, Buffalo Bill weird. Not "Hmm, that's a little strange". I mean, just look at the title of track three! Knopfler's journalist trilogy is broken up by one the most menacing songs ever recorded, but what will Corey think of it? This is an album that Kev knows the least from the first five records, so will he be as keen on it as he was the debut? Will Corey conoquer his middle-age ennui? Will Kev think of a single damned interesting thing to say in the episode notes???The only way to find out is to turn on, tune in, and get a bullet in the chest.Songs covered in this episode: "Once Upon a Time in the West", "News", "Where Do You Think You're Going?", "Communiqué"Don't forget to follow us on social media and leave us a rating/review if you're enjoying the show!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/UltimateCatalogueClashTwitter: https://twitter.com/UCatalogueClashBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/ucatalogueclash.bsky.social
  • 3. Dire Straits - Side B

    01:21:31||Season 4, Ep. 3
    This week's episode kicks off with a tent pole song in the history of rock n roll. One of two such songs in this catalogue! When an awkward looking fella wearing a headband gets up and starts playing Chet Atkins style guitar in the era of punk and heavy metal, how in the green shit is that going to be received? Only four songs in this week's episode and it's the London quadrilogy. Will Kev be taken back to his time living in the English capital? Will Corey understand all these gibberish limey references?The only way to find out is to turn on, tune in, and check out guitar George (he knows-all the chords).Songs covered in this episode: "Sultans of Swing", "In the Gallery", "Wild West End", "Lions"Don't forget to follow us on social media and leave us a rating/review if you're enjoying the show!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/UltimateCatalogueClashTwitter: https://twitter.com/UCatalogueClashBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/ucatalogueclash.bsky.social
  • 2. Dire Straits - Side A

    01:29:44||Season 4, Ep. 2
    What is a Knopfler? How does one Knopfle? Does one need any special equipment to do it? Are there any qualifications required??? Look, this is an avenue of inquiry that needs to be explored, but perhaps now is not the time. We're kicking off this season with plenty of guitar brililance and some low-key vocal performances. We're also getting a little shit-kicky and twangy here and there. Kev brought this band to the podcast, so he's ready to play the Strait man in this double-act, but will Corey be on board with a step back from the heavier stuff we've spent the last few months covering? Will he be wowed by the best-named drummer in rock history? Will he find nice things to say about John Illsley?The only way to find out is to turn on, tune in, and quite your messing around.Songs covered in this episode: "Down to the Waterline", "Water of Love", "Setting Me Up", "Six Blade Knife", "Southbound Again"Don't forget to follow us on social media and leave us a rating/review if you're enjoying the show!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/UltimateCatalogueClashTwitter: https://twitter.com/UCatalogueClashBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/ucatalogueclash.bsky.social
  • 1. Introducing Dire Straits

    53:50||Season 4, Ep. 1
    All the late night bargains have been struckBetween the satin beaus and their bellesPrehistoric garbage trucksHave the city to themselvesYear Two, Season Four. It's time to take side step from the heavier stuff and get into the colours and shapes that Mark Knopfler and the rest of Dire Straits bring to the musical landscape. Five albums in seven years and then a six year gap until their final record saw Dire Straits release some of the most iconic songs of the 80s. Is there a riff that defines that decade more than Money For Nothing? Is there a more instantly recognizeable keyboard intro than Walk of Life? Maybe a little 1984 synth intro from a band Corey knows well, but besides that, probably not! Will Kev go under a 5 on the Haskin Scale for any song in this catalogue? Will Corey's ear bend to the finger-picking style of the band's unlikely headband-sporting frontman? The only way to find out is to turn on, tune in, and get your chicks for free.Don't forget to follow us on social media and leave us a rating/review if you're enjoying the show!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/UltimateCatalogueClashTwitter: https://twitter.com/UCatalogueClashBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/ucatalogueclash.bsky.social
  • 21. Skin and Bones (with Mark Camire)

    01:08:50||Season 3, Ep. 21
    “The evil that men do lives after them; the good is oft interred with their bones.” - Thus spake the Bard, William Shakespeare, but I wouldn’t pay too much attention to old Bill, he couldn’t even spell his own name properly, so quite why we should listen to any of his opinions about Foo Fighters’ 2006 Live album Skin and Bones is quite beyond me! For this final, bonus, episode in Season Three, we're joined by the one and only Mark Camire, Corey's co-host on his flagship show; And The Podcast Will Rock! We get into Mark's background with the Foos and plenty of depth about the performances on Skin and Bones. Should the show open with Razor? Are there any songs missing? Do all the electric songs work as acoustic numbers? And will Corey finally come around to Friend of a Friend?The only way to find out is to turn on, tune in, and watch me spin!Don't forget to follow us on social media and leave us a rating/review if you're enjoying the show!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/UltimateCatalogueClashTwitter: https://twitter.com/UCatalogueClashBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/ucatalogueclash.bsky.social
  • 20. Season 3 Finale (with Scott Haskin)

    02:01:42||Season 3, Ep. 20
    The late great Stephen Hawking once said “I believe alien life is quite common in the universe, although intelligent life is less so. Some say it has yet to appear on planet Earth.” Well Steve, some say that it’s yet to appear on this podcast, but tonight, we have a third party who might bring the intelligence quotient up. We're joined once again by our good pal; author, songwriter, musician, and podcaster extraordinaire, Scott K Haskin! Scott was listening to the Foo Fighters for the very first time and we're not really sure we've converted him! We dig into our thoughts about the catalogue, we have some excellent trivia courtesy of the wonderful Adam Janis, and we discover which artist we'll be covering on Season Four of the Ultimate Catalogue clash! Who will it be? The only way to find out is to turn on, tune in, and fight foo!Don't forget to follow us on social media and leave us a rating/review if you're enjoying the show!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/UltimateCatalogueClashTwitter: https://twitter.com/UCatalogueClashBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/ucatalogueclash.bsky.social
  • 19. Sonic Highways - Side B

    01:33:19||Season 3, Ep. 19
    The ancient Greek philosopher Heraclitus once ruminated that "No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man." Also, no Foo Fighter ever steps foot in the same studio twice during the making of their eighth studio album, Sonic Highways, for they are not in the same city and it is not the same song! This week we're off to Joshua Tree, New Orleans, Seattle, and New York. We're definitely gonna rack up the air miles, but will the final song of this season resonate with Kev, and what will Corey think of Joe Walsh turning up in a Foo Fighters' song?The only way to find out is to turn on, tune in, and get outside.Songs covered in this episode: "Outside", "In the Clear", "Subterranean", "I Am a River"Don't forget to follow us on social media and leave us a rating/review if you're enjoying the show!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/UltimateCatalogueClashTwitter: https://twitter.com/UCatalogueClashBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/ucatalogueclash.bsky.social
