Introducing Dire Straits

Season 4, Ep. 1

All the late night bargains have been struck

Between the satin beaus and their belles

Prehistoric garbage trucks

Have the city to themselves

Year Two, Season Four. It's time to take side step from the heavier stuff and get into the colours and shapes that Mark Knopfler and the rest of Dire Straits bring to the musical landscape. Five albums in seven years and then a six year gap until their final record saw Dire Straits release some of the most iconic songs of the 80s. Is there a riff that defines that decade more than Money For Nothing? Is there a more instantly recognizeable keyboard intro than Walk of Life? Maybe a little 1984 synth intro from a band Corey knows well, but besides that, probably not! Will Kev go under a 5 on the Haskin Scale for any song in this catalogue? Will Corey's ear bend to the finger-picking style of the band's unlikely headband-sporting frontman?

The only way to find out is to turn on, tune in, and get your chicks for free.

  • 17. She's So Unusual - Side A

    01:27:03||Season 5, Ep. 17
    In 1983, two young women emerged from the New York music scene and blazed their way into the popular music. Madonna's self-titled debut went 5 times platinum and this week's album, "She's So Unusual", went 5 times platinum. Madonna went from strength to strength and became a cultural icon, while Cyndi carved out a niche in the alternative music scene with brief daliances with the top ten over the subsequent decades. But, will Corey be as much a fan of this one as Kev was going in? Will the album stack up for Kev under the unforgiving format of the show? And what will this week's game throw up?The only way to find out is to turn on, tune in, and come over and eat!Songs covered in this episode: "Money Changes Everything", "Girls Just Want to Have Fun", "When You Were Mine", "Time After Time"Don't forget to follow us on social media and leave us a rating/review if you're enjoying the show!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/UltimateCatalogueClashBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/ucatalogueclash.bsky.socialDiscord: https://discord.gg/76F8G8FEX8Ko-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/ultimatecatalogueclash
  • 2. Midnight Ramblings and Songs from Movies

    01:18:00||Season 0, Ep. 2
    Well then, Kev is down in Four-Way-Stop-Burn helping Corey with a quiz, even though he knows Corey could have done it on his own with no problem and just needed an excuse to get Kev out of the keep, across the moat, and across his substantial lands, to hang out with him. After a great few hours raising money for the Weyburn Theatre, we convened to the centre of the CMPU to listen to music, marvel at the sheer scale and depth of Corey's collection of movies, music, and memorabilia and hey, look, we're fifty year old white dudes; of course we're gonna record our conversation and force it onto you lovely people! If you have a few spare dollars that you can part with, the Weyburn Theatre is a fantastic community initiative that's worth backing! • 16. Colour By Numbers - Side B

    01:34:07||Season 5, Ep. 16
    We're back, with our lip gloss, our braids, and our fingerless gloves! We had a bit of a mixed bag on side one, so how is side two gonna pan out? Will there be a huge banger? Will there be a huge clunker? Will Corey lose his shit if the fat lady sings too much again? And Corey throws Kevin a curveball in the Colour By Numbers game, so how will the 4'5" Englishman respond?The only way to find out is to turn on, tune in, and be more than just kind!Songs covered in this episode: "Church of the Poison Mind", "Miss Me Blind", "Mister Man", "Stormkeeper", "Victims"Don't forget to follow us on social media and leave us a rating/review if you're enjoying the show!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/UltimateCatalogueClashBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/ucatalogueclash.bsky.socialDiscord: https://discord.gg/76F8G8FEX8Ko-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/ultimatecatalogueclash
  • 15. Colour By Numbers - Side A

    01:45:52||Season 5, Ep. 15
    Well, we're away from the hard rockin, vox squawkin', cock blockin shenanigans of those miscreants Motley Crue and taking a hard left turn into the pop stylings of Culture Club, starting with their gigantic worldwide hit about a little lizard that could! Will Corey miss wailing guitar solos and thunderous drums? Will Kev have any childhood recollections of this album? And how will this album's game go?The only way to find out is to turn on, tune in, and deal in black money.Songs covered in this episode: "Karma Chameleon", "It's a Miracle", "Black Money", "Changing Every Day", "That's the Way (I'm Only Trying to Help You)"Don't forget to follow us on social media and leave us a rating/review if you're enjoying the show!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/UltimateCatalogueClashBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/ucatalogueclash.bsky.socialDiscord: https://discord.gg/76F8G8FEX8Ko-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/ultimatecatalogueclash
  • 14. Shout At The Devil - Side B

    01:52:38||Season 5, Ep. 14
    We cover the second side of Motley Crue's 1983 "classic" (?), Shout at the Devil. Side A was a mixed bag with an instrumental, a Beatles cover, and a lead track that Corey is a fan of. Kev, a little bit less so... but will he find some gems hidden on Side B of this record? Will Corey feel the Danger? And how will the train wreck of this season's game go this week?The only way to find out is to turn on, tune in, and don't pull my trigger!Songs covered in this episode: "Red Hot", "Too Young to Fall in Love", "Knock 'Em Dead, Kid", "Ten Seconds to Love", "Danger"Don't forget to follow us on social media and leave us a rating/review if you're enjoying the show!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/UltimateCatalogueClashBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/ucatalogueclash.bsky.socialDiscord: https://discord.gg/76F8G8FEX8Ko-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/ultimatecatalogueclash
  • 13. Shout At The Devil - Side A

    02:11:35||Season 5, Ep. 13
    Two nuns are driving down a dark road when the devil jumps on the hood of their car. “Quick, show him your cross!” the nun who’s driving says. The other nun rolls down her window, sticks her head out and shouts, “Get the fuck off my car you dickhead!” Today we're also shouting at the devil with a band of misfits and ne'er do wells; Mötley Crüe! Will Kev get through another glam/hard/hair metal album unscathed and what will he make of the Crue's version of Helter Skelter? Will Corey be a fan of this record lyrically and will "God Bless the Children of the Beast" pass muster?The only way to find out is to turn on, tune in, and go back to the top of the slide.Songs covered in this episode: "In the Beginning", "Shout at the Devil", "Looks That Kill", "Bastard", "God Bless the Children of the Beast", "Helter Skelter"Don't forget to follow us on social media and leave us a rating/review if you're enjoying the show!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/UltimateCatalogueClashBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/ucatalogueclash.bsky.socialDiscord: https://discord.gg/76F8G8FEX8Ko-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/ultimatecatalogueclash
  • 12. Lick It Up - Side B

    01:42:05||Season 5, Ep. 12
    It's a wrap! Well, on this album anyway. Kev finds a Kiss song that he really rather likes and the boys discuss the relative merits of the Gene "trilogy" of songs that closes out this album. What will Kev be licking? Will Corey rate side B higher than Side A and will Vinnie Vincent actually play something worth listening to? The only way to find out is to turn on, tune in, and tell it to the people right now!Songs covered in this episode: "All Hell's Breakin' Loose", "A Million to One", "Fits Like a Glove", "Dance All Over Your Face", "And on the 8th Day"Don't forget to follow us on social media and leave us a rating/review if you're enjoying the show!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/UltimateCatalogueClashBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/ucatalogueclash.bsky.socialDiscord: https://discord.gg/76F8G8FEX8Ko-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/ultimatecatalogueclash
  • 11. Lick It Up - Side A

    01:47:20||Season 5, Ep. 11
    Well, well, well. Kev never thought he'd be podcasting about Kiss! We're going paintless and probably, at some point, pantless, as we dig into one of the most over-the-top bands of all time. But will Kev find a single second of Kiss that he can enjoy? Will Corey enjoy the aggressive vocal stylings of Gene Simmons, and will Kiss be able to pull it off (or lick it up) without all that iconic facepaint?The only way to find out is to turn on, tune in, and gimme more!Songs covered in this episode: "Exciter", "Not for the Innocent", "Lick It Up", "Young and Wasted", "Gimme More"Don't forget to follow us on social media and leave us a rating/review if you're enjoying the show!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/UltimateCatalogueClashBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/ucatalogueclash.bsky.socialDiscord: https://discord.gg/76F8G8FEX8Ko-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/ultimatecatalogueclash
  • 10. Sports - Side B

    01:41:20||Season 5, Ep. 10
    Well, that's the Sports all sorted out and not a hint of a diss track anywhere to be seen! We're getting a cover of a Hank Williams song, a single that saw a radio edit applied, and the band's third consective number 6 single from the album! But can Side B of Sports live up to a strong Side A for Kev and Corey? Will Corey appreciate the juxtaposition of dark lyrics and light bouncy pop melodies and will Kev claw back some of the points he's lost so far this season in the episode-end game? The only way to find out is to turn on, tune in, and just say so.Songs covered in this episode: "Walking on a Thin Line", "Finally Found a Home", "If This Is It", "You Crack Me Up", "Honky Tonk Blues"Don't forget to follow us on social media and leave us a rating/review if you're enjoying the show!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/UltimateCatalogueClashBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/ucatalogueclash.bsky.socialDiscord: https://discord.gg/76F8G8FEX8Ko-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/ultimatecatalogueclash
