‘Pheromone maxing’: Gen Z men are refusing to shower to pick up girls
In this episode of The Weekend T, Poppy Coburn and Michael Deacon tackle the week’s biggest news stories, balancing royal commentary, pop culture tributes, and a bizarre internet trend.
They discuss the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s return to the UK, dissecting new polling that shows 71 per cent of the British public opposes paying for their security, while questioning whether taxpayer-funded protection is appropriate for non-working royals.
Poppy and Michael pay tribute to the late country music legend Dolly Parton, celebrating her universal appeal, sharp wit, and quiet philanthropy, as well as the rare cross-party consensus prompted by her passing.
Plus the duo reacts to reports of a gender-fluid UK police officer receiving multiple warrant cards, comic mishaps from China’s Humanoid Robot Olympics, and the viral Gen Z “pheromone maxing” trend of ditching shower routines.

Put down your pint, Healey! 'Appalling' Budget is nothing to celebrate
37:51|In Thursday’s episode of The Daily T, Tim Stanley and Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg are joined by Allister Heath, the Editor of The Sunday Telegraph, to discuss John Healey’s maiden Budget.Allister described it as a “nothing-burger” of a Budget and said that “a lot of things will get worse” over the next two years as a result of the Chancellor’s measures. The three weighed up the prospect of the nation going to the polls in the near future – despite the PM’s denials – with yesterday’s Budget seeming to be a holding operation. Allister said Andy Burnham “wants to go down in history” like other Labour prime ministers and would need a mandate to implement many of the policies he wants to introduce. The Telegraph is the Publisher Podcast Awards' Podcast Publisher of the Year 2026► Watch back our Daily T’s Autumn Budget YouTube livestream here.► Get more exclusive Daily T content from The Daily T+ membership! ‘It’s anti-middle class’: How Chancellor Healey failed his first Budget
28:04|In Wednesday’s episode of The Daily T, Tim Stanley and Jacob Rees-Mogg are joined by financial journalist and host of the Investing Unlocked podcast Georgie Frost to react to John Healey’s maiden Budget as Chancellor. Speaking immediately after the Chancellor’s speech, Tim welcomed some of the measures, such as the winter fuel payment, but criticised how Mr Healey was funding it, saying that the increased taxes on landlords and banks “are essentially a raid on the asset-owning middle classes”. On the issue of military spending, Jacob was critical, saying: “He’s got no more on defence than there was when he resigned. And yet he’s staying in office and in charge of it. That’s a pretty awkward position for him to be in.”The Telegraph is the Publisher Podcast Awards' Podcast Publisher of the Year 2026► Watch back our Daily T’s Autumn Budget YouTube livestream here.► Get more exclusive Daily T content from The Daily T+ membership! ‘It’s fake!’: Burnham accused of inflating defence spend as he hits 100 days as PM
46:49|In Tuesday’s episode of The Daily T, Tim Stanley and Jacob Rees-Mogg are joined by Sir Ben Wallace, the former Tory defence secretary. Sir Ben has accused the Government of falsifying spending on the defence budget in order to appear closer to reaching the pledged 3 per cent of GDP by 2030. He criticised the Government for taking only a superficial step towards the target and falling behind its European allies. He said: “Germany, Poland, the Baltics, Scandinavians, have put their money where their mouth is. Denmark even cancelled a public holiday to increase tax revenues to fund it. We have done press releases.”Tim and Jacob also discuss Andy Burnham’s first 100 days in office, exploring the difficulties associated with coming in in mid-term. They explore the changes he has made and the promises he has made for the future – and whether a snap election could be on the horizon. The Telegraph is the Publisher Podcast Awards' Podcast Publisher of the Year 2026► The Daily T covers The Budget 2026 Live from 12.30pm on Wednesday 28th October. The Budget will backfire: Two ex-chancellors slam Labour’s plans
35:22|On Friday’s episode of The Daily T, Camilla Tominey and Tim Stanley are joined by Sir Jeremy Hunt and Lord Lamont of Lerwick to discuss John Healey’s upcoming Budget. The two former chancellors of the exchequer examine why Labour’s likely approach of raising taxes on banks and businesses could stifle economic growth, and why reducing the national debt is so important.Sir Jeremy is critical of Labour’s public spending and argues that reform is urgently needed. “I think we should have a new rule, a fiscal rule, that outside emergencies governments will never increase public spending by faster than the growth rate of the economy,” he says. The two former chancellors also answer a question Tim was desperate to ask: did they drink alcohol while delivering their Budget speeches at the despatch box?► Get more exclusive Daily T content from The Daily T+ membership!
