‘Hypocritical!’: Harry and Meghan’s cry for security won’t wash

•

In Friday’s episode of The Royal T, Camilla Tominey and Hannah Furness discuss the latest development in the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s battle for taxpayer-funded security after they issued a statement criticising “extraordinarily reckless” paparazzi who were attempting to take photographs of Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Our presenters debate whether their public criticism will help or hinder their case while their security status Ravec, the Home Office committee responsible for royal and VIP security, reviews their case. Camilla and Hannah also look at how the Prince and Princess of Wales reacted to a similar level of photographer intrusion in 2015, and how Kensington Palace reacted at the time.

Elsewhere, Camilla and Hannah discuss Earl Spencer’s attack on the King, whose response to claims in his book the Earl labelled “very aggressive” in a new interview with Tina Brown.

  • Burnham’s broken Britain: PM’s socialist dream quickly turning into a nightmare

    35:42|
On the day that hundreds of prisoners are released early and the UK’s “one in, one out” migrant deal with France ends, The Daily T examines the state of the nation under Andy Burnham.Camilla Tominey and Tim Stanley discuss the paradox of a Prime Minister who wants more devolution while pushing for a referendum on rejoining the EU and following the rules set by Brussels.Tim suggests Mr Burnham’s push for proportional representation could be to the detriment of the Labour Party, saying it is more important to him to have a permanent coalition centre-Left establishment in Britain than it is for Labour to win majorities.Camilla and Tim also note the shift in Labour’s policy regarding Israel and Palestine marked by the absence of Ed Miliband, the Foreign Secretary, from the Labour Friends of Israel event and the lack of comment from the Prime Minister so far on the Flydubai hijacking attempt.► Subscribe to our new Daily T YouTube channel: youtube.com/@dailytpodcast► Get more exclusive Daily T content from The Daily T+ membership! 43:55|
In Tuesday’s episode of The Daily T, Camilla Tominey and Tim Stanley review Andy Burnham’s first Labour Party conference speech as Prime Minister. They discuss the list of expensive promises made by the PM, including his announcement of a National Care Service, new legislation to allow councils to acquire empty homes, and a pledge to scrap the triple lock pension after the next election. They also discuss the Prime Minister’s desperate desire to return to the 1970s, his dislike for Margaret Thatcher, and the “rose-tinted glasses” through which he sees Gordon Brown’s legacy.Plus: are labradors and ale really part of a “far-Right” fantasy that “never really existed”, as one Labour minister protests?► Subscribe to our new Daily T YouTube channel: youtube.com/@dailytpodcast► We want to hear from you! • Andrew Morton on the big mistake the King made over Diana row

    19:01|
In Sunday’s bonus episode of The Daily T, Camilla Tominey and Tim Stanley speak to Andrew Morton, the unofficial biographer of Diana, Princess of Wales. Morton believes the Palace should not have issued a statement in reaction to Earl Spencer’s memoir on his late sister’s life and death, and says that royal staff who were present at the time of the earl’s conversation with the King in the aftermath of Diana’s death should speak out to confirm what happened. Morton also reflects on his past conversations with Diana, and recalls her own words on her mental health, upbringing and relationship with Charles before she died.► Subscribe to our new Daily T YouTube channel: youtube.com/@dailytpodcast► We want to hear from you!
