    56:02
We are on the last count down to Thame Food Festival which is at the end of September. A big event with huge infrastructure and complex logistics - and an often challenging final week or two as things change, move around and people book late!Event's are moveable feasts - all your plans t the beginning of the year are often topsy turvy by the festival itself. It keeps us on our toes...ad can often lead to a sleepless night or two. As we plunge towards D Day - I am reminded of the food festival we worked at in June where we didn't have any of the stresses from putting on the event - we just enjoyed it! The atmosphere, the people, the food, the drink and the sunshine. Here is part two of our trip to Northern Ireland to take part in the Comber Earlies Potato Festival. First up I had a lovely chat with my matey Paula McIntyre....www.thamefoodfestival.co.uk

  • 3. Potatoes, Potatoes and Potatoes! Northern Ireland, Comber and a glorious food festival...and Potatoes!

    57:39
In June, Jon and I flew over to Northern Ireland. I had been asked to host the “Meet the Producers’ Stage at the Comber Earlies Potato Festival in Comber which sits on Strangford Loch.It is a beautiful town, in a stunning part of the country and we were treated to a joyful festival of food and lovely people. My fab friend Paula McIntyre (more from her later) who you would have heard on a previous podcast - put me forward and introduced me to Heather Shields from Ards and North Down Council.Together with her team they put on a truly wonderful event. The sun shone that day, the food, drink, music and laughter flowed.www.scrumptiousfoodfestivals.co.ukhttps://www.instagram.com/truly_scrumptious_podcast/https://paulamcintyre.co.uk/https://www.visitardsandnorthdown.com/whats-on/summer-food-festival/comber-earlies-food-festival
  • 2. MOVE OVER MRS BEETON - ELIZABETH IS IN DA ROOM!

    01:02:51
Welcome to another of our special summer podcasts!A month or so ago I spoke with the utterly delightful Dr Neil Buttery when his brand new book was launched. I happened upon Neil (as you do!) when scrolling through instagram and I saw that he had written a book about one of my all time culinary heroines. Now…You might be thinking Mary Berry (yes I love Mary, have worked with Mary and I think she is fabulous) … but it’s not her. Neither is it Delia or …tum tum tum Nigella! This lady lived about three hundred years ago in Manchester. She was forthright, intelligent, canny and with a fabulous business head. At a time when women weren’t allowed opinion or property.So….. make a cup of tea, get comfy and slice some of your favourite cake… Settle down in your best chair and let me introduce you to Elizabeth Raffald and her biographer the fabulous Neil Buttery. https://britishfoodhistory.com/about/
  • 1. SHOUT OUT FOR BRITISH TROUT!

    19:48
In May, Jon and I were invited by the British Trout Association to spend a day in the sunny Cotswolds learning to fish Trout. Having never fished a day in my life I thought this was a great opportunity and a lovely way to spend a day.We arrived at Lechlade Trout Fishery, met our other fellow fisher folk, had a coffee and welcome biscuit…. then rod in hand walked towards a huge pond full to the brim with Trout. It’s a bit more complicated than just tossing a rod and line into the water, there is a bit of flicking, drawing of the line, a good eye to spot the trout…and patience. Not my strongest quality - but definitely Jons. Who caught four…. I managed to land three! But that was in the easy pond….after lunch we went to the large lake where our quarry was a little harder to net!We were in the expert hands of Tim from Lechlade Fishery and learnt so much from Oliver, the CEO of the British Trout Association.
