Case 165: The Red Onion Saloon Alaska - A bordello with flair!

Season 1, Ep. 165

If you were a prospector looking to make a fortune in gold in the late 1800’s, you needed to make a trip to the Klondike in Alaska.

Gold was discovered there by local miners in August 1896, and when news reached places such as Seattle and San Francisco one year later, it triggered an avalanche of men ready to try their luck.

During the Klondike Gold Rush an estimated 100,000 prospectors travelled to this region of the Yukon in north-western Canada in the last years of the 1800’s.

The Red Onion Saloon was one of many businesses that made enormous profits during this time, keeping their patrons entertained during those cold dark winters, and today it is known as one of the most haunted places in Alaska.

In this episode, we head north to Alaska to find out who  or what is still haunting the Red Onion Saloon!

Maybe, it’s a Madam still keeping an eye out on her girls?

Maybe, it’s the ghost of a prospector who lost all of his money gambling at the card tables or got into a bar fight ?

So, you better rug up and pour yourself a stiff brandy as we tramp through the freezing snow to discover the secrets of one of the most haunted sites in Alaska.

  • 161. Case 161: Alkimos - Australia's Ghost Ship

    49:31||Season 1, Ep. 161
    The Liberty ship Alkimos is significant for the folklore that surrounds its demise and the popular belief that the ship is haunted and was inherently ill-fated and maybe even cursed!As a marker for its resting place and as the roost of seabirds the visible remains of the Alkimos adds character to the open and picturesque seascape of the coast where it lays off the coast of Western Australia.It is representative of the many ships that have been wrecked on the Western Australian coast since 1622 and as such, underlines the dangers and difficulties of maritime navigation on this coast. The wreck is strongly associated with decorated war veteran, diver, author, musician and celebrity Jack Wong Sue OAM.As a Liberty Ship it is significant as part of the largest production run of ships ever achieved and representative of the shift from riveted construction to prefabricated and welded shipbuilding. But it is the setting for tales of ghosts and a magnet for divers who still risk their lives by being drawn in by its cursed remains.What has led to this vessel being so tragic and so feared?Let's find out in this episode. • 160. Case 160 Corvin Castle Romania - Dracula, headless skeletons and a Bear Pit

    54:27||Season 1, Ep. 160
    Corvin Castle is one of the biggest and most impressive castles in Europe. It is located in the city of Hunedoara on the Hungarian-Romanian border. Even though Corvin Castle looks like it’s coming straight from a fairy tale book, its history is quite dark.Its history tells of a place of torture and death. A torture chamber can be found in the dungeon and apart from some very interesting torture devices, it houses a bear pit as well. Prisoners who were sentenced to death were thrown in this pit and eaten alive by the hungry bears below.Tourists are told that Vlad Tepes, known as Vlad the Impaler or the real-life inspiration for Dracula, was held prisoner for 7 years at Corvin Castle. Because of this story, the Castle was the source of inspiration for Castle Dracula in Bram Stoker’s 1897 horror novel “Dracula”.In this episode of the True Hauntings podcast we go to Romania where we will explore the legends and ghost stories of Corvin Castle and find out whether this is the Castle where Dracula’s spirit continues to terrorise people.As always -We hope you enjoy this episode - please leave a review and jump on over to our True Hauntings Fans Facebook page and tell us.LOVE OUR WORK?Consider supporting our work by buying us a "cup of coffee" https://www.buymeacoffee.com/anneandrenataORbecome a Grand Poobah Patreon supporter, and join our inner circle of craziness!https://www.patreon.com/anneandrenataJoin us on our Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/TrueHauntingsPodcastP.S.
