Case 143: The Ghosts of Michelham Priory

Season 1, Ep. 143

Down a small, sleepy lane, and not far from Upper Dicker, Arlington Reservoir and Hailsham is stunning Michelham Priory.

This is a 13th Century Priory that stands on a private island.

This priory is the site of deaths, murders and destruction and was looted of its ornaments and valuables at the time of King Henry 8th.

Although it has seen many different eras and had many different purposes one thing is for sure – the ghosts of the past still remain and as are active as ever.

In this week’s episode of the True Hauntings Podcast we explore the many ghostly sightings and experiences that still haunt the Priory – The now famous English ghost hunting show – Most Haunted concluded their first series with an investigation of Michelham Priory on 17 September 2002, which was coincidentally the first episode to be produced.

In the eighth series the team revisited this location to mark the 100th episode.

With a reputation backed by hundreds of chilling ghost stories, this abandoned hospital is sure to send shivers down your spine. Ghost Hunters International has even declared it “one of the most haunted places in the world,” known for its numerous documented ghost sightings—from violent, disembodied voices to eerie shadows that lurk in the corners, waiting to be seen.Screams are often heard, as are dancing orbs of light. Voices in the empty building are also often heard, and there have been countless reports of apparitions seen walking or floating through the building, most bearing the scars of battle.And in this episode of the True Hauntings Podcast we are going to the Philippines to explore the very haunted Clark Air Base which has such a frightening reputation that the National Geographic Channel created a docuseries about it. • 161. Case 161: Alkimos - Australia's Ghost Ship

    49:31||Season 1, Ep. 161
    The Liberty ship Alkimos is significant for the folklore that surrounds its demise and the popular belief that the ship is haunted and was inherently ill-fated and maybe even cursed!As a marker for its resting place and as the roost of seabirds the visible remains of the Alkimos adds character to the open and picturesque seascape of the coast where it lays off the coast of Western Australia.It is representative of the many ships that have been wrecked on the Western Australian coast since 1622 and as such, underlines the dangers and difficulties of maritime navigation on this coast. The wreck is strongly associated with decorated war veteran, diver, author, musician and celebrity Jack Wong Sue OAM.As a Liberty Ship it is significant as part of the largest production run of ships ever achieved and representative of the shift from riveted construction to prefabricated and welded shipbuilding. But it is the setting for tales of ghosts and a magnet for divers who still risk their lives by being drawn in by its cursed remains.What has led to this vessel being so tragic and so feared?Let's find out in this episode. • 160. Case 160 Corvin Castle Romania - Dracula, headless skeletons and a Bear Pit

    54:27||Season 1, Ep. 160
    Corvin Castle is one of the biggest and most impressive castles in Europe. It is located in the city of Hunedoara on the Hungarian-Romanian border. Even though Corvin Castle looks like it’s coming straight from a fairy tale book, its history is quite dark.Its history tells of a place of torture and death. A torture chamber can be found in the dungeon and apart from some very interesting torture devices, it houses a bear pit as well. Prisoners who were sentenced to death were thrown in this pit and eaten alive by the hungry bears below.Tourists are told that Vlad Tepes, known as Vlad the Impaler or the real-life inspiration for Dracula, was held prisoner for 7 years at Corvin Castle. Because of this story, the Castle was the source of inspiration for Castle Dracula in Bram Stoker’s 1897 horror novel “Dracula”.In this episode of the True Hauntings podcast we go to Romania where we will explore the legends and ghost stories of Corvin Castle and find out whether this is the Castle where Dracula’s spirit continues to terrorise people.As always -We hope you enjoy this episode - please leave a review and jump on over to our True Hauntings Fans Facebook page and tell us.LOVE OUR WORK?Consider supporting our work by buying us a "cup of coffee" https://www.buymeacoffee.com/anneandrenataORbecome a Grand Poobah Patreon supporter, and join our inner circle of craziness!https://www.patreon.com/anneandrenataJoin us on our Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/TrueHauntingsPodcastP.S. Jerry Goodin, his wife Laura, and daughter Marcia experienced activity that involved almost everything in their home being destroyed by an unseen force that was unstoppable.The case got considerable publicity at the time and attracted investigators--many of whom became eye-witnesses--from the local police and fire department as well as from Ed and Lorraine Warren. 01:04:31||Season 1, Ep. 157
    The 'Know Your Meme - external' site defines Slenderman, as "a mythical creature often depicted as a tall, thin figure wearing a black suit and a blank face". In the mythology "he can stretch or shorten his arms at will and has tentacle-like appendages protruding from his back".In this episode of the True Hauntings Podcast we look at what happens when fiction becomes fact, and when the belief in something, that was never real in the first place, embeds itself into the collective psyche so deeply that it can have terrible consequences.This is the story of when Slenderman led two young girls to try and commit a murder.We are adding a message that was sent to us from a fan who wrote ' I would like to make a correction. There was a comparison of Slenderman and Mothman both being from books. This is an error. The original Mothman sightings was around 1966 whereas John Keels Mothman book was written in the 70s. This was a case of the sightings came before the book. Whether Mothman exists or not, the verdict is still out for me, but I wanted to give you a correction."
