I almost got kidnapped OMFG | April Millsap

Season 2, Ep. 202
•

In July 2014, 14-year-old April Millsap set out on her usual evening walk with her dog Penny along the Macomb Orchard Trail in Armada, Michigan. It was a small town, a familiar path, a routine she’d done nearly every night. She never made it home. Hours later, Penny led two joggers to April’s body in a ditch just off the trail. Before she died, April sent a text that would haunt everyone who read it:

“I almost got kidnapped OMFG.”

This week we walk through April’s last evening, the man on the motorcycle witnesses saw her talking to, and the trail of evidence (cell phone pings, a shoe print, a helmet, and an ex-girlfriend’s testimony) that led investigators to James VanCallis Jr.

No DNA, no confession, and a killer who still insists he was framed. We get into how prosecutors built their case, what a jury decided, and the mother who looked her daughter’s killer in the eye and told him exactly what he took.

Justice for April. 💜

  • 198. Just tell us where you were | Jennifer Jackson

    01:36:55||Season 2, Ep. 198
    On June 5, 2005, Jennifer Jackson was found dead in her East Memphis home, stabbed more than 50 times. Her 18-year-old daughter Noura told police she came home and found her. Investigators didn't buy it.Noura was charged with her mother's murder and, in 2009, convicted of second-degree murder after a trial that leaned hard on her partying, her texts and her lifestyle. Years later, the Tennessee Supreme Court overturned the conviction, citing a witness statement prosecutors withheld until after the trial and a closing argument that pointed at Noura's decision not to testify.Rather than face a second trial, Noura took an Alford plea to voluntary manslaughter, pleading guilty while maintaining her innocence. She walked free in 2016. The prosecutor went on to face a disciplinary case of her own.Where do you stand on this case? Was it Noura? Or was it someone else that will never be held responsible? 🎧 Listen to Triggered wherever you get your podcasts: linktr.ee/triggeredthepodcast💬 Join the Chaos Crew (free Discord): https://discord.gg/YuEWjMzkJN ⭐ Become an Inner Circle member on Supercast: triggeredthepod.supercast.com🌐 triggeredthepodcast.com
