Trash Talk... with Count Binface

Richard Bacon

Season 1, Ep. 26

Richard Bacon has spent most of the past decade living in the USA dreaming up TV formats like Jimmy Carr's 'I Literally Just Told You...' so it's a real thrill that he's our first guest of in this week of American Election specials.

By the way - he's not just on because he once lived in the US - he's also been on an intimate* walk in the woods with President Barack Obama.

Away from politics Richard also chats about AI, kids' TV, social media, and gives some feedback on some pun-heavy TV show ideas. Plus listen out for a very special announcement about the campaign to bring back CEEFAX.

Finally Count Binface does what the Washington Post won't do - endorses a candidate for the Presidency. Listen to the full episode to find out who*

*It turns out it wasn't as intimate as we thought...

**It's Kamala.

  • 27. US ELECTION SPECIAL

    33:21||Season 1, Ep. 27
    Ah... the smell of Polling Day in the morning. As the (for now) United States of America go to the polls this episode is (mostly) dedicated to discussion of Harris vs Trump with Isaac-Davy Aronson supervising producer at US news network MSNBC and co-presenter of the excellent podcast Déjà News alongside Rachel Maddow.But it's not all stars & stripes... oh no. This episode contains a mini-history lesson on Britain's biggest loser (insert your own cheap Liz Truss gag here) Guy Fawkes. It's the most explosive episode of Trash Talk yet. Until the one about the emerging US Civil War later in the week.
  • 25. Satirical Cartoonist Nick Newman

    38:55||Season 1, Ep. 25
    The Bindependence Day UK Comedy Tour is over... so it's back to weekly podcasts! Thank goodness - because it's been the Budget this week, and there is a lot to discuss. Plus there's an exceptional guest this episode - it's Sunday Times (and Bette Midler endorsed) satirical cartoonist Nick Newman. As well as creating funny drawings Nick is a comedy writer behind many TV and stage shows, including a new play opening in 2025 with Ian Hislop called The Autobiography of a Cad WHICH IS NOT ABOUT BORIS JOHNSON. If you want to find out more about Pont - the cartoonist that Nick recommends you all look up - then check out his feed on X... As ever - your support is hugely appreciated - so please leave a review, follow this podcast and say some nice things to your friends. It all helps. Finally - in the next few episodes we will inevitably turn our focus on the USA as they decide whether to elect Kamala Harris or that other [CENSORED CONTENT] Donald Trump. Do the right thing America. Make your vote COUNT.
  • 24. ANOTHER ANNOUNCEMENT (and Mitch Benn)

    14:53||Season 1, Ep. 24
    Have you seen Count Binface on his UK Comedy Tour? If you haven't then we have some good news - it's not finished yet, AND this episode was recorded backstage at one of his London dates. Mitch Benn pops by for a chat, and there's a big announcement regarding one of Count Binface's most popular manifesto pledges... in fact it's officially Jess Phillips' favourite (She says so in her book!)If you do hear a shop playing Christmas music before December - please let us know by sending us a message to all the usual places!
  • 23. BONUS EPISODE - HAPPY BIRTHDAY CEEFAX

    26:51||Season 1, Ep. 23
    This week Ceefax celebrated its Golden Anniversary (if you don't count the fact that it got binned a dozen or so years ago). Reintroducing Ceefax has always been a key manifesto pledge - so we've dedicated this episode to its birthday. Please feel free to share your favourite pages (340 for cricket) on social media or in the comments for this podcast. We'll be back with another interview pod next week. In the meantime - why not send a link for the pod to a friend, especially if you're friends with Sir Kier Starmer. Tell him it's free - that should get him interested. To Binfinity... and beyond.
  • 22. Miranda Sawyer

    34:18||Season 1, Ep. 22
    By her own admission, Miranda Sawyer doesn't remember much about the 90s, but thankfully for us it was her job to write stuff down - so she's written a wonderful book called Uncommon People: Britpop and Beyond in 20 Songs about the decade which is suddenly back in vogue, and indeed back in Vogue. On this episode Miranda tells us all about the gatekeepers who changed 90s culture, why music is better than film and which Blue song is a bit sh*t. Watch out for a SECOND episode of Trash Talk this week as we celebrate 50 years of Ceefax, the most un-hackable, un-trollable, and un-Muskable of all the digital platforms. Happy Birthday Ceefax. Link to Miranda's book is here
