Touchdowns All Day with Jon Barber & Max Dawson
E070 - Nick Gerlach
TOUCHDOWNS ALL DAY w/ JON BARBER & MAX DAWSON.
E70 - Nick Gerlach - Before getting to this week's episode, we at Touchdowns All Day would like to acknowledge the passing of our brother Johnny R. Goode III. JRG3 was the Disco Biscuits' lighting designer for more than two decades, and his artistry behind the console was a defining element of live Bisco. Beyond that, Johnny was a loyal friend, a generous mentor, a father, and a diehard Biscuits fan.
Touchdowns All Day will be dedicating a future episode of the podcast to Johnny, and we'd like you to be a part of it. If you have a memory of Johnny - or his lights - that you'd like to share, please call it in to the Touchdowns All Day hotline at (424) 666-SIYD. Make sure to leave your name and let us know where you're calling from. And, if you are able, please consider donating to the GoFundMe to help defray some of the cost's associated with Johnny's memorial.
On to this week's episode...
Jon and Max welcome saxophonist, podcaster, trivia maven, and cult leader Nick Gerlach to the show. Nick is a prolific sideman, having performed alongside Michal Menert, The String Cheese Incident, Ryan Adams, Umphrey’s McGee, Sunsquabi, and Opiou, amongst others. He's also the co-host of Andy Frasco's hilarious World Saving Podcast and the MC of Denver's number one trivia night. Nick has just released a new EP, Concrete Lullaby, and he joins Barber and Max for a wide-ranging conversation on jambands, flat Earth theory, alien invasion, rap beefs, the apocalypse, and various other important topics.

E080 - Bernstein and Chasnoff (Song Spotlight Series)
02:02:24||Ep. 80TOUCHDOWNS ALL DAY w/ JON BARBER & MAX DAWSONE080 - Bernstein and Chasnoff (Song Spotlight Series) - For years you've heard the songs...Now hear the stories of the people who inspired them. Andy Bernstein is a jamband Zelig and the inspiration for one of the Disco Biscuits' most beloved classics, "Bernstein and Chasnoff." A friend and collaborator of Marc Brownstein's since their Brooklyn days, Andy has enjoyed a front-row seat for the Biscuits' entire career. But Andy has never been just a spectator. As the author and editor of The Pharmer's Almanac he helped codify the lore and cannon surrounding Phish. As the co-founder and executive director of HeadCount he oversaw an organization that has registered more than 1.5 M music fans (and counting) to vote. And in his current role as the president of the board of Trey Anastasio's Divided Sky Foundation he's helping to establish a cutting-edge residential recovery program for individuals affected by addiction. We conclude the episode with a visit from another Andy: the Biscuits Internet Project's Andy Bazany, who stops by to share five of his all-time favorite versions of "Bernstein and Chasnoff."For a more in-depth conversation about Andy Bernstein's work at HeadCount and Divided Sky, check out his recent appearance on the Roadcase Podcast. This episode features excerpts of the following live Disco Biscuits' performances:Intro, Pat & Dex, and Mr Don, from April 18, 1996 at Penn Rocks, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PAThe Devil’s Waltz, from March 10, 1999 at Ritz, Salt Lake City, UTThe Very Moon, from March 12, 1999 at Fox Theater, Boulder, COAquatic Ape, from March 13, 1999 at Starlight, Fort Collins, COBasis for a Day, from April 9, 1999 at Trocadero Theater, Philadelphia, PANo Matter (The Maui Project), from April 8, 2000 at Wetlands Preserve, NY, NYDisco Bisquick, from August 7, 1996 at Wetlands Preserve, NY, NYRun Like Hell, from October 31, 1997 at Phi Sigma Kappa, University Of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PAPeaches En Regalia, from April 18, 1996 at Penn Rocks, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PABernstein and Chasnoff, from July 5, 1996 at Downtime, NY, NYTrooper McCue, from August 7, 1996 at Wetlands Preserve, NY, NYBernstein and Chasnoff, from September 24, 2023 at Delmar Hall, St. Louis, MOBernstein and Chasnoff, from March 23, 1998 at Tammany Hall, Worcester, MABernstein and Chasnoff, from January 23, 1999 at Stone Church, Newmarket, NHBernstein and Chasnoff, from May 5, 1999 at Exit Inn, Nashville, TNBernstein and Chasnoff, from September 11, 1999 at Iron Horse Music Hall, Northampton, MABernstein and Chasnoff, from October 27, 2000 at Bluebird, Bloomington, INBernstein and Chasnoff, from September 6. 2001 at Higher Ground, South Burlington, VTBernstein and Chasnoff, from August 16, 2007 at Indian Lookout Country Club, Mariaville, NYBernstein and Chasnoff, from February 3, 2017 at The Fillmore, Philadelphia, PABernstein and Chasnoff, from December 31, 1998 at Silk City, Philadelphia, PABernstein and Chasnoff, from December 29, 2006 at Theater Of The Living Arts, Philadelphia, PA79.
