Oct 9: $1.2 Billion in Liquidations Signals More Trouble Ahead
Bitcoin bounced back above $80,000 after a sharp selloff triggered approximately $1.2 billion in crypto liquidations, including more than $1 billion in long positions. The rebound came amid reports that President Trump would delay potential military action against Iran until after the midterm elections, while oil prices remain above $100 and Bitcoin ETF investors have withdrawn roughly three-quarters of a billion dollars over two sessions. Matt explains why he considers the move a bounce rather than a recovery, with $80K becoming the immediate support zone and $83K to $84K the first resistance area Bitcoin needs to reclaim. He also discusses the possibility of further downside into the $70,000s and how the midterm elections could influence crypto markets.
Today's institutional news includes MARA transferring approximately $81 million in Bitcoin as miners increasingly explore AI infrastructure, Robinhood and T. Rowe Price examining tokenized ETFs, Thailand approving a framework for domestic Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs, and the UK sanctioning crypto services accused of facilitating Russian sanctions evasion. We also revisit the debate over AI and cryptocurrency security following comments from Vitalik Buterin, examine Solana's effort to cut block times in half, and explain how the XRP Ledger's new permission-delegation functionality could improve institutional custody and treasury management.

Oct 8: AI Raises New Questions About Crypto Security
19:30|Bitcoin has fallen toward $82,000 as Treasury yields remain elevated, Brent crude trades above $100 and the dollar strengthens toward an 18-month high. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded approximately $487 million in net outflows Wednesday, while the Federal Reserve's September meeting minutes showed policymakers remain concerned about inflation and expect additional tightening may be necessary this year. Standard Chartered is expanding institutional crypto custody into Singapore, Samsung is bringing USDC transfers directly into Samsung Wallet for eligible U.S. Galaxy users, and Grayscale's Zcash ETF highlights the continued expansion of regulated crypto investment products beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum.Today's biggest technology discussion centers on Ethereum researcher Justin Drake's warning that advances in AI, mathematics and computing could eventually threaten the cryptography securing cryptocurrency wallets. No such break has been demonstrated, but the debate raises important questions about long-term security and whether the industry should begin preparing now. We also look at Orca and Loopscale merging to form Formation, a Solana-based financial infrastructure company targeting AI, robotics, energy and other emerging industries. Plus, a listener question sparks a discussion about AI, free speech, algorithmic control and why locally hosted language models don't fully address concerns about censorship on public platforms.Happy HODLing
Oct 7: Bitcoin Drops Back to $83K
13:03|Bitcoin dropped from roughly $86K to $87K back toward $83K in a matter of minutes as Brent crude climbed above $100, Treasury yields moved higher, the dollar strengthened and leveraged long positions were liquidated. Crypto liquidations reached roughly $550 million over 24 hours, while Bitcoin ETF flows were nearly flat. Bitcoin is once again testing the lower end of the range we've been watching, with roughly $82K to $83K acting as support, while the Federal Reserve's September meeting minutes arrive today amid continuing uncertainty over whether policymakers will raise rates again this year.Robinhood has added $25 million in Bitcoin to its own balance sheet, while stablecoin company Rain is seeking a national trust bank charter. The CFTC continues developing a federal framework for leveraged retail crypto trading without waiting for new legislation from Congress, Cardano has launched a programmable-token standard allowing regulated assets to include freeze, seize and transfer restrictions without changing ADA's permissionless base layer, and Pudgy Penguins parent Igloo is shutting down its Abstract Ethereum Layer 2 on December 15 after losing tens of millions of dollars supporting the network. Abstract becomes the second recognizable Ethereum Layer 2 to announce a shutdown in less than a week, putting more attention on whether L2 economics are actually sustainable.Happy HODLing
Oct 6: Wall Street Pushes More Assets Onchain
13:16|Bitcoin is back around $86,000 after another rejection near $87K, while ETF flows turned negative and Treasury yields remain elevated. Institutional crypto infrastructure continues expanding, with Solana launching an open-source delivery-versus-payment system for financial institutions, Ondo bringing tokenized exposure to pre-IPO private companies onchain, and Spiko raising $90 million as its tokenized cash-fund business grows. Corporate treasuries are still accumulating as well, with Strategy adding Bitcoin, Strive making its largest Bitcoin purchase since June and BitMine pushing its Ethereum holdings above 6 million ETH.The CFTC is beginning work on a federal framework for leveraged and margined retail crypto transactions even without new legislation from Congress, while FinCEN has withdrawn proposed rules targeting self-custody wallet transactions and broad crypto-mixing activity. ZachXBT also says he fronted roughly $350,000 to infiltrate an alleged Chinese laundering network connected to North Korea's Lazarus Group, while Ethereum's Glamsterdam upgrade moves onto the Sepolia testnet. For Bitcoin, the immediate challenge remains unchanged: break through $87K, push toward $90K and turn the $86K to $87K area from resistance into support.Happy HODLing
Oct 5: Craig Cobb Sees a Critical Breakout Level
15:55|Bitcoin is pushing toward $87,000 as ETF inflows turn positive again and markets sharply reduce expectations for another immediate Fed rate hike following a weaker September jobs report. Craig Cobb says Bitcoin is approaching a critical technical level around $87,374, the high of the recently closed three-month candle. A sustained break above that level would reinforce the improving weekly trend and could begin establishing a cleaner daily uptrend, while Ethereum still needs to clear roughly $2,800 and much of the broader market remains in consolidation.Kraken's parent company is building 24/7 institutional dollar settlement, while a proposed tokenized-securities venue involving OKX and the NYSE's parent company would bring round-the-clock trading closer to U.S. stocks. Ethereum is simultaneously dealing with unusually large staking entry and exit queues, Zcash is testing a faster NU7 upgrade, Ethereum's Glamsterdam upgrade heads to testnet, and Blast is shutting down its Layer 2 after costs exceeded revenue. For Bitcoin, the immediate question is whether the recent progression from $80K to $82K support, then $85K, can now extend through the roughly $87.4K resistance level.Happy HODLingStart your free 7-day trial of Market Intern:marketintern.comSubscribe to Craig Cobb’s free Tuesday newsletter:thegrowmeco.com
Oct 2: Stablecoins Move Deeper Into Banking and Zero-Knowledge Proofs Get Interesting
12:17|Bitcoin is back above $86,000 as oil slips below $100 and Treasury yields pull back slightly, but the real test is whether $85,000 can become a new floor rather than another temporary pump. Spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded roughly $92.9 million in net outflows, while Lloyds Banking Group and Visa completed a live $750,000 cross-border settlement pilot using USDC. Evernorth shareholders also approved the company's business combination ahead of its planned Nasdaq debut, while Robinhood says the SEC's new tokenized-stock exemption may already impose limits that are too restrictive for the scale of its business. The SEC proposed a new crypto custody framework for investment advisers and regulated funds as Commissioner Hester Peirce prepares to leave the agency, while Circle and Hyperliquid are pushing European regulators on stablecoin reserve and perpetual-futures rules. NEAR Intents also temporarily halted services following a roughly $3.8 million exploit and says affected users will be compensated. Meanwhile, the Ethereum Foundation and Open Anonymity Project launched zkAPI, using zero-knowledge proofs to separate payments for AI and other API services from users' identities, another example of privacy-preserving cryptography moving toward practical applications.Happy HODLing
Oct 1: Bitcoin Holds $84K
17:24|Bitcoin remains around $84,000 even as the 10-year Treasury yield pushes above 5.3%, its highest level since 2002. August PCE inflation came in cooler than expected, while Bitcoin ETFs recorded roughly $139 million in net outflows. Citi nevertheless raised its 12-month Bitcoin target from $82,000 to $113,000 and its Ethereum target from $2,240 to $3,028. The Treasury's expanded long-duration bond buyback program is also feeding a larger debate about debt management, liquidity and the growing role stablecoin issuers could play as buyers of short-term government debt.European regulators are scrutinizing Binance's operations under MiCA, while the Swiss National Bank is warning that large-scale stablecoin adoption could weaken traditional monetary-policy transmission. The prediction-market regulatory fight is also intensifying in Washington, MetaMask is precautionarily exiting affected Ethereum validators following misdirected block rewards, and DogeOS is developing an EVM-compatible environment that could expand Dogecoin into smart contracts, DeFi and other applications. Bitcoin itself remains stuck in the same basic structure, with $80K to $82K as the key floor and $87K as the next major level to reclaim.Happy HODLing
Sept 30: Bitcoin Holds $83K Ahead of PCE
12:12|Bitcoin remains stuck around $83,700 as Treasury yields stay elevated and markets wait for August PCE inflation data. Spot Bitcoin ETFs nevertheless recorded another $66.2 million in net inflows, extending their positive streak to nine trading sessions. Robinhood is rolling out AI agents capable of automatically executing trades along with crypto perpetual futures offering up to 10X leverage, Coinbase Clearing is now a registered CFTC derivatives clearing organization, Blockchain.com is reportedly pursuing an IPO at a $4 billion to $6 billion valuation, and Bitwise has launched the first U.S. spot NEAR ETF.The Bitget hack is also turning into a test of crypto's censorship-resistant ideals. NEAR Intents intervened when hacker-linked funds attempted to move through its system, while THORChain refused Bitget's request to blacklist attacker addresses and subsequently processed swaps involving millions of dollars in hacker-linked assets. Meanwhile, Zcash developers are targeting more than 50,000 private payments per second, Aztec has relaunched zk.money as a privacy-focused Ethereum wallet, and Cboe and S&P are considering future tokenized options. Matt's immediate market focus remains unchanged: hold the $80K to $82K Bitcoin floor, then see whether $87K can eventually become support instead of resistance.Happy HODLing
Sept 29: Bitcoin Holds $84K Despite $107 Oil
12:55|Bitcoin is holding around $84,000 despite Brent crude trading around $106 to $107, Treasury yields above 5% across much of the curve and significant market expectations for another Fed rate hike. Strategy added another 1,665 Bitcoin for roughly $143 million while repurchasing about $152 million of STRC preferred shares, and Tom Lee's BitMine has now accumulated more than 6 million ETH. A Senate investigation also found heavy USDT usage among hundreds of sanctioned Iran-linked wallets, while Tether says it has helped freeze roughly $550 million in Iran-linked USDT this year. The Bitget hack is also raising a larger philosophical question after attackers attempted to move more than $50 million through NEAR Intents, which intervened despite describing its service as permissionless and uncensorable. Meanwhile, Anthropic's potential IPO is already being traded through synthetic crypto perpetuals before the company actually goes public, and its enormous infrastructure commitments highlight another Bitcoin headwind: AI companies are becoming major borrowers in an already crowded bond market. Vitalik Buterin is also outlining a dramatically different Ethereum architecture for 2030 built around cryptographic proofs, formal verification and quantum-resistant technology.Happy HODLing
