Through The Garden Gate
Paul Foster @alliumgardeners ๐๐
We start as always with a chat with George and his gardening question, this week all about Raspberries.
Marc and Jamie chatted about what they had been up too in their gardens, Marc gave a Robomower update from work.
Our guest tonight is someone with over 32 years experience in the world of horticulture, specialising in creating gardens that are naturalistic and wildlife friendly. He is very passionate about making the world a better place for all and even has a petition to try and force change with new build estates to be more sympathetic with nature and green spaces.ย
Sign Paulโs petition https://c.org/4T4nTzV5Fm
I love hearing how Paul creates gardens with nature and wildlife at the forefront rather than an afterthought. Which also leads to a much smaller cost than traditional hard landscaping and garden design.
Thanks everyone for watching and listening, join us next week for another guest from the world of horticulture ๐

01:34:26||Season 1, Ep. 141This weeks garden question from George was all about how many seeds a strawberry have on them ๐Tonightโs guest hopes to inspire people to discover where their food comes from, and maybe choose a career in Agriculture. She is the host of Second Nature @second_natureuk a podcast celebrating the seasons, farming, gardening and the countryside. She also has a cute sidekick called Willow the Corgi. So fantastic to talk to Lizzie all about her career in farming and how she has discovered her love for not just farming but growing food.It was great to also talk about mental health which Lizzie has suffered from and gardening and nature help immeasurably. Thanks everyone for watching and joining in, join us next week for another guest from the world of horticulture ๐

01:29:33||Season 1, Ep. 140We started as we always start with chaos and a gardening question from George. This week it was about bulbs.ย Tonight we had a guest whoโs mission is to help change the way we live as a society, he believes we should be growing food as a community and not relying on the shops.I loved how Chay has found a connection to nature that has made his life complete and now he wants to inspire more people to break away from the systems that are controlling us all.My vote is for him to be the next Prime Minister ๐Itโs incredible what you can achieve with a community, in less than 11 week they have created a growing space and are harvesting from it.Join us next week for another episode and a guest from the world of horticulture ๐

01:14:55||Season 1, Ep. 139Welcome to another episode, this week we are slowly baking alive in the dehumidifier formally known as United Kingdom, we start as ever with a chat with George and his famous gardening question. Who will win this week Jamie, Marc or will George stump them both.Tonightโs guest is a geologist with nearly 40 years experience having working on projects all over the world. He has now moved in to the world of horticulture to teach gardeners, farmers, developers, landowners, estates and horticulturalistsย in the biological/soil food web approach togardening and growing at all scales. His understanding of the way mycorrhiza work in the soil is incredible our minds were absolutely blown, you have probably all heard the word bit maybe donโt understand the science behind it.Thank you so much everyone who watched live or catches up after or waits for the podcast later on in the week.ย Join us again next week for another guest from the world of horticulture ๐

He is currently gardening at a retirement estate with an incredible ethos and a wealth of history. As ever we had a wonderful rambling chat, which incorporated all of Paulโs journey in horticulture. We even chatted about how undervalued the industry is and how poorly paid it is for the level of skill and knowledge there is.Join us again next week for another chat with someone from the world of horticulture. 01:41:05||Season 1, Ep. 136We start as we always do with Georgeโs gardening question this week about Radish. We all now need to sow some and see if the answer is correct. Tonight our guest was Jack who is a life long nature lover, a gardener, a designer, a writer who has featured in @gardenersworldmag @guardian @gardens_illustrated and many others, as well as being the author of Wild about Weeds and A Greener Life. I would also add artist on to the list.We geeked out about compost our favourite topic, and even about how Jamie plans to use goats to stop him having to use weed killer. What an incredible stat that over 40% of UK gardens are paved over, we definitely need to start reducing that number. We definitely need to check out the tile whacking in Europe ๐Thanks everyone for watching and listening join us again next week for another guest from the gardening universe ๐
135. Nick Patel @_wilderskies_ ๐ฟ
01:48:06||Season 1, Ep. 135We start as always with Georgeโs garden question, this week about lawn mowers and when they were invented. Tonight we have a wildlife expert which you would think has nothing to do with gardening but in my opinion the two are very closely linked and the more natural we can make our gardens the better.Itโs interesting to think about what plant you need to atract a certain insect and how specific those insect can be.If you are ever in the south west and want to have a nature tour with Nick check out his website and follow him on Instagram.Letโs hope his Birdfoot trefoil attracts the small blue butterflies he want to see on his garden, also keep an eye out for Painted lady butterflies as itโs expected to be a good year for them.Join us next week for another guest from the world of horticulture! ๐
