We went to the grimy streets of New York City's Eleventh Precinct to hang out with the suave, charasmitic, and righteous Theophilus "Theo" Kojak! He's solving crimes and doing it with style. This procedural cop show ran from 1973 to 1978 and even had a handful of follow up made-for-TV movies that kept Telly Savalas busy. Did our crew like it? We're starting off our Cop Shows theme this week! We're going to be exploring shows that are about police, have police in them, or even a tangential connection to police! Should be a fun month.We start with Audie bringing us an 80s classic! C.O.P.S! Not the one with the real life cops chasing perps over fences and exploiting the poor and underserved communties in our country. This is the good one! These cops are basically super heroes and what a delight it is to watch a 30 minute long commercial to sell toys. Not unlike the rest of the 80s cartoons we watched every saturday morning. It's time to head to Springfield USA! That's right, this week we're doing The Simpsons! This might be one of the only shows that is still being created that we can cover, and that alone is pretty amazing. We're focused on a sports this season so we're taking on the classic epsidoe "Homer at the Bat." Typical Simpsons shenanigans are afoot, and did we like any of it? Herman, Lilly, Grandpa, Marilyn, Eddie, and of course Spot darkened TV sets around the country in the 60s and really never let go. TV movies and remakes abound because the family was just so charming. In this episode, Herman is determined to make Eddie into a world class athlete. Is he up to the challenge? We're continuing M*A*S*H month by watching a later season episode, "Movie Tonight." As tensions are building around the base, Colonel Potter decides its time to have some "jocularity" and shows his favorite movie to the troops. This is one of those episodes that functions as a filler to some degree but never phones it in. It's joke after joke after joke for almost the entire runtime. It also gets the cast to showcase some of their many talents. We had a good time with this "more comedy than drama" episode.
