When a man is struck by a car and killed, in front of on-lookers, it's assumed that within a few hours his next of kin will be informed.


But in this case - police are unable to work out who the man might be. They receive a possible address... discover that he's a regular in one of the local pubs, and even recover a mobile phone from his pocket. The police are even provided a name for their mystery man, and a recent photograph of him. And yet - no loved ones, no friends or family, are located.

He gave his name as Peter Bergmann, and an address in Austria, when checking into a small hotel in the Irish town of Sligo. But the name was false. And the address didn't exist. What he did next has baffled investigators and left more questions than it has given answers. But the end result was that the man was found deceased on a nearby beach just a few days later.
