The Laughs Of Your Life with Doireann Garrihy

Roz Purcell

Season 8, Ep. 1
•

We👏are👏back👏! And I'm absolutely delighted to welcome a woman we've been angling to get into the Laughs of Your Life studio since forever. Roz Purcell has had an incredible career to date - Top 10 Miss Universe model at 19, then went on to become the powerhouse behind Natural Born Feeder and The Hike Life. She's a proper boss bitch! We chatted about her hilarious first ever modelling head shots taken as a 15-year-old at her granduncle’s Golden Jubliee as a priest, how she developed and then overcame her eating disorder, and how she and her sister are lucky to be alive after an awful M50 car crash.

T/W: This podcast contains discussions about eating disorders.

I’m delighted that this season of The Laughs of your Life is once again brought to you by F&F, fashion at Tesco. Pop in for the weekly shop and step out in style with a new wardrobe this autumn/winter.

  • 12. Katriona O’Sullivan

    46:48||Season 10, Ep. 12
    It was such a privilege to sit down with Katriona O’Sullivan, bestselling author and all round sound legend. I read Katriona’s book ‘Poor’ earlier this year and can safely say it is the most powerful book I have ever read. Not that she needs my review…72 weeks at the top of the bestsellers chart will tell you all you need to know. Her honesty is the deepest breath of fresh air. Whether you have read her book or not, I think you will love this episode.
  • 11. Dermot Bannon

    42:56||Season 10, Ep. 11
    Dermot Bannon showed up to the studio exactly as you’d expect - giddy and ready for divilment. Yes, he did steam in and congratulated the show on its third season (ten, Dermot, keep up), but predictably enough that didn’t set him back at all, and he entertained us with stories about wild times with his Waterford cousins, the Room To Improve guest one of his kids pranked, as well as telling us about the recent illness that left his body struggling to stay alive. Dermot Bannon’s Super Spaces is available to watch on the RTÉ Player now.
  • 10. Brother Richard Hendrick

    51:05||Season 10, Ep. 10
    My guest this week is Brother Richard Hendrick, a Capuchin Franciscan priest-friar from Dublin. You may have seen him on The Tommy Tiernan Show in recent months. If I had known he was open to interviews I would have asked him years ago, as we happen to go way back. I first met Brother Richard 20 years ago when he facilitated retreats in my secondary school. He had a profound effect on me, my sisters and many of our friends. What an extraordinary man. We spoke about his pathway into a life as a monk, the important of self reflection and the commonalities between preachers and comedians. By the time this episode is released, Brother Richard will have married Mark and I (have I mentioned I'm engaged on the podcast?). I hope you enjoy our chat. Brother Richard's book 'Calming the Storms: Meditation as a Path to Inner Peace and Happiness' is published by Hachette Books Ireland in Hardback and is out now.
  • 9. Talking Bollox (Calvin and Terence)

    46:16||Season 10, Ep. 9
    The Talking Bollox lads. What can I say? Two absolute gems. Calvin and Terence talked to me about growing up in the flats in Dublin's inner city and how they entertained themselves as kids. They were both extremely vulnerable (content warning) and opened up about their experiences with suicide and addiction. They also expanded on their infamous run in with Coolio which I know will make for some seriously funny listening. I belly laughed hard while recording this episode. I hope you enjoy it!Content Warning: This conversation includes the topics of suicide and addiciton.
  • 8. Roddy Doyle

    26:33||Season 10, Ep. 8
    Chatting to Roddy Doyle felt like sitting down with an uncle you have known your whole life, but never properly gotten to know. He talked to me about his Christian Brother school days, how easy it is to dodge the public eye and gave his (very lovely) answer to “if laughter wasn’t the best medicine, what would be?”. His latest novel ‘The Women Behind The Door’, which is published by Hachette, is available in all good book shops.CONTENT WARNING: This episode contains conversation on the theme of corporal punishment.
  • 7. Charleen Murphy & Ellie Kelly

    41:50||Season 10, Ep. 7
    I say it on the podcast and I'll say it here. These girls keep me young. I adore following Charleen and Ellie's journeys on instagram and so simply had to have them on the podcast. The girls host Hold My Drink podcast and are two of Ireland's most successful social media personalities. They are bright, bubbly and beautiful...the triple threat! But most of all, they are both so refreshingly relatable. I think you will love them.
  • 6. Laura Whitmore

    38:14||Season 10, Ep. 6
    My guest this week is the one and only, Laura Whitmore. I got to sit down with Laura in The Olympia Theatre during her run of '2.22 A Ghost Story' during the Summer. She is as bubbly and beautiful in person as you might expect. I had never met Laura but it felt like I had. She's that kind of girl. She talked to me about growing up in Bray, how "the show must go on" even in the toughest of times and her the surprising place she first shifted her husband, Iain Stirling. I hope you enjoy!
  • 5. Donncha O'Callaghan

    32:45||Season 10, Ep. 5
    Ahh, Donners. What a JOY to have Donncha O'Callaghan back on The Laughs of your Life! It has been 5 years (and 1 week) since his first appearance on the podcast. Little did we know in 2019 that we were about to work together - full time - for 3 years. '2fm Breakfast with Doireann, Donncha and Carl' may have come to an end earlier this year, but the bond we all built lives on. Donncha is currently flat out on the promo trail for his new children's book 'Disaster Dad' (available now in all good book shops), so I thought I would use the opportunity to nab him for a catch up. I hope you enjoy!
  • 4. Dawn O'Porter

    35:56||Season 10, Ep. 4
    To me, Dawn O'Porter is the perfect personification of the London girl I always wanted to be. Lol - cringe - but true! She is smart, cool, hilarious, a diehard lover of the tube and a total woman's woman. It was such a joy to chat to her this week. She told me all about life since making the move from LA back to London with her husband (TLOYL alumnus Chris O'Dowd) and kids, her dear friend Caroline Flack, "writing her way out of" money problems and her love for her exceptionally loyal readers. Her new book Honeybee is published by HarperCollins and is out now!
