Sen. Roger Marshall: What to Expect When Senate Receives Mayorkas Impeachment Articles

Two months ago, the House voted to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Next week, the Senate will receive the two articles of impeachment against Mayorkas, but Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., is expected to dismiss the charges just as quickly as he receives them.

“Schumer is going to table it,” Sen. Roger Marshall, R-Kan., says of the impeachment articles.

The articles were originally expected to be delivered to the Senate Wednesday, but some Senate Republicans ask House Speaker Mike Johnson to delay the delivery until next week. Fox News reports that the benefit of delaying the delivery of the articles allows more time for debate without the time restraint of the coming weekend.

Schumer has not indicated he plans to change his position on the articles of impeachment if they arrive next week instead of Wednesday.

If Schumer does dismisses the charges against Mayorkas, it will be a historic first, according to Marshall.

Marshall joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss the Senate’s expected course of action on the articles of impeachment against Mayorkas, and to explain what course of action remains for conservative lawmakers seeking to secure America’s borders.

  • Law Firm Defends First Amendment Rights of Child Punished for 'Any Life' Matters Drawing

On July 15, the Pacific Legal Foundation asked the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals to reverse a lower court ruling in California that said elementary school students have no First Amendment rights. A six year old called B.B. in Capistrano Unified School District in Southern California was introduced to the phrase “Black Lives Matter” in her first-grade class during a lesson about Martin Luther King, Jr. After the lesson, the child drew a picture and wrote “Black Lives Mater (sic),” added “any life,” and gave the picture to her classmate. The school forced B.B. to apologize for her “racist” drawing, banned her from recess for two weeks, and even banned her from drawing pictures for friends. B.B.’s parents were never informed about the incident and found out years later.

  • Warning From Rep. Moran: A Harris Administration Would Be ‘Biden-Plus'

    19:05
If she wins the Democratic nomination and is elected president, a Kamala Harris administration would be “Biden-plus,” a Texas congressman says. A Harris administration would mean a further “move towards socialism and a more liberal government,” says Rep. Nathaniel Moran, R-Texas, adding, “and that's further away from that conservative value system, that conservative foundation that we want to see restored back in our government.”  One day after kicking off her campaign for president, Harris on Wednesday chose to skip Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to a joint session of Congress. Harris' absence was a “snubbing,” according to Moran. Vice presidents typically preside over such joint sessions. It's a “big deal,” the Texas lawmaker said, for “one of our most strategic allies, in a moment of history, where they are under siege by Hezbollah, Hamas, and Iran, besieged at every, every point in their country,” to travel to the U.S. and speak to Congress. Harris’ decision to skip the speech “shows little support on the Democratic side for Israel.” Instead, Harris spoke at the biennial Zeta Phi Beta sorority national convention in Indianapolis. Her office said the speech was scheduled before Netanyahu’s address to Congress was planned.Moran joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss Harris’ record as President Joe Biden's “border czar,” and what issues are most on the minds of voters ahead of the November presidential election. Enjoy the show!

  • How Does UK View America’s Tumultuous Political Season?

    22:26
Within less than two weeks, the world has watched as former President Donald Trump was almost assassinated, President Joe Biden announced he is stepping out of the race, and Vice President Kamala Harris has emerged as the leading choice for the Democratic Party nominee. From within the U.S., it feels like a tumultuous time in American politics. But how is the world, and specifically the U.K., viewing “the land of the free and home of the brave” right now? The U.K. is “very concerned” by recent events in America, Matthew Goodwin, a professor of politics and international relations at the University of Kent and a senior fellow at the Legatum Institute, says. “The attempted assassination of Donald Trump was seen as a symbol of a country that is very divided and polarized,” according to Goodwin. “There's an awareness that the rhetoric has become extreme, not just, around the former president, but also on the left of American politics.” Goodwin joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss European’s views of America’s fraught election cycle, and to discuss the results of the U.K. recent election that resulted in the worst-ever election defeat for Britain’s Conservative Party. Enjoy the show!

  • Where Security Went Wrong: Sheriff Responds to Assassination Attempt on Trump

    17:06
It makes “absolutely no sense” that the roof of the building from which the gunman fired was not secured by the Secret Service, Dodge County, Wisconsin, Sheriff Dale Schmidt told The Daily Signal in an interview discussing the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. Following the attempt on Trump’s life during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle sat down for an interview with ABC News and said there were safety concerns with regard to stationing agents on the roof the shooter used because it was “a sloped roof.”But Schmidt points out that the countersnipers that were on a roof behind the president were also on a sloped roof. “When you look at a location from a security standpoint, you're going to be standing where that dignitary is ahead of time and saying, ‘Where are the potential vulnerabilities?’” Schmidt said. “And I can tell you if I was on that roof, I could have made that shot. It is not a difficult shot to make.”  Schmidt sat down with The Daily Signal at the Republican National Convention last week in Milwaukee, to discuss the security failures at the Trump campaign rally just days earlier. He also explains why the crisis on America’s southern border has become such a threat to sheriffs across America.Enjoy the show!
