I'm So Not Over It

EP. 2 - HUW STEPHENS

Ep. 2

Gareth Gwynn and Esyllt Sears are joined by DJ and presenter Huw Stephens to discuss all things Xennial. How has being a member of the micro generation born between 1977 and 1985 influenced Huw, who became a Radio 1 DJ whilst still in his teens? From the unique challenges of analogue and digital music formats to the enduring influence of Paul Daniels on his career and an unusual encounter with Jamie Theakston - Huw reveals all.

  • Easter Leftovers 2025 - Part 1

    21:24|
Tickets for I'm So Not Over It at Machynlleth Comedy Festival are available now!Welcome to the first of our three Easter Leftover episodes. We've got in the habit of doing leftover episodes around Bank Holidays and these next two are so close together we thought we'd do a mini-series of action packed, and very silly, leftover specials - so welcome to Part 1 of 3. Should you wish to track down the episodes these moments were jettisoned from, you can find them... • April 1991 (Big Break and Buses)

    22:24|
Since changing the podcast name (RIP The Xennial Dome, 2021-24) we don't bother ourselves too much with generational differences on the show too much - But what happened to children's fiction about runaways? They were everywhere, right? Was it deemed dangerous to fill kid's heads with these stories? Did they go the way of smoking, catapaults and the nicknames of some of the Bash Street Kids? It's one of the things we consider as Esyllt Sears boils April 1991 down the essentials - The Greyhound Bus and Big Break.Tickets for I'm So Not Over It at Machynlleth Comedy Festival are available now!Check out Eyllt's appearence on Crushed with Margaret Cabourn-Smith.Get in touch by email on imsonotoverit@gmail.com or through one of the following social media accounts...BlueSky: @imsonotoveritInstagram: @imsonotoveritTikTok: @imsonotoveritTheme music by Alex_Kizenkov from Pixabay.I'm So Not Over It is A Mighty Bunny Production.
  • April 1985 (New Coke)

    19:46|
Tickets for I'm So Not Over It at Machynlleth Comedy Festival are available now! He's more of a Diet Coke man but, nevertheless, Gareth Gwynn is always happy to chat about New Coke - one of the biggest marketing and corporate blunders of the 1980s. Or was it? Was the decision to change the Coca-Cola formula and then change it back in under 80 days all part of some enormous, 4D Chess style strategy? Probably not. Plus, Esyllt Sears expresses her concerns about Fairy Liquid and Quality Street - on the off chance someone who listens can do something about it.There's an episode of Trouble At The Top all about the 1980s New Coke disaster, which you can watch here.Upcoming wedding? • April 1989 (Spontaneous Human Combustion)

    24:00|
Think about it - when was the last time you heard people talk about Spontaneous Human Combustion? It's been a while hasn't it? It's just not the sort of thing you talk about in polite company once you stop being a teenager or leave the 1990s or, worst of all, both.As such, this episode might not be for everyone as Esyllt Sears revisits the glory days of SHC, recommends a 1980s BBC documentary on the subject and doesn't recommend an Independent article on the same topic (you can search for that yourself). And talking of unexpected, explosive events, we also cover the time someone swore at Five Star on Going Live! Yeah, we're clicking the "explicit" button on this one. • March 2015 (Top Gear and Richard III)

    23:40|
You'd think there would be the potential for a bit of personal insight in this show since Gareth Gwynn worked on Top Gear (for a tiny bit) and we suspect we're all related to Richard III (one way or another) - but it's probably not enough. Gareth wasn't around TG for the infamous Clarkson/Steak showdown (but may have profited from its aftermath!) and Richard III-wise, the moment they stop sticking numbers after your name, family trees are hard to keep track of. Nevertheless, there's some details about the Top Gear Test Track, should you ever find yourself on it, and Gareth tells you who The Stig is. So that's something. What's your Top Gear test track time? t us know by email on imsonotoverit@gmail.com or through one of the following social media accounts...BlueSky: @imsonotoveritInstagram: @imsonotoveritTikTok: @imsonotoveritTheme music by Alex_Kizenkov from Pixabay.I'm So Not Over It is A Mighty Bunny Production.
  • Esyllt In Paris (and The March 1980 Syndrome)

    26:55|
After you've taken-in this French-themed episode, in all its Parisian glory, you're almost certainly going to want to spin-back and check-out our edition all about July 1983 (CAT Scans) - in which we discuss Esyllt's previous visit to Paris. It's safe to say that in today's episode, Esyllt does not succumb to the dreaded Paris Syndrome - her expectations being so low, the only way was up.And if you're keen to dig through the archive for further French content, the Channel Tunnel is dealt with as part of July 1987 (with Dan Thomas). We do have time to tackle a month in history too - with Gareth Gwynn presenting his favourite moments from March 1980. If you want to hear a "young" Tony Blackburn "on" "Radio Caroline", the 1977 K-Tel record is here.(Also, sorry this episode is out a little late but, on the plus side, it's going to give us a chance to see what happens to the numbers when we release one on a Saturday!)Go on, tell us about your awful teenage work experience stories on imsonotoverit@gmail.com or through one of the following social media accounts...BlueSky: @imsonotoveritInstagram: @imsonotoveritTikTok: @imsonotoveritTheme music by Alex_Kizenkov from Pixabay.I'm So Not Over It is A Mighty Bunny Production.
  • March 1995 (Ooh, Aargh! Cantona!)

    22:41|
Looking at our episode title now, I refuse to believe we are the first people to use that pun. After all, Eric Cantona kicked that Crystal Palace fan during the glory days of the tabloid press - back when you could write a pun like that, go home and enjoy your six figure salary (I expect). Anyway, while the infamous Cantona fly-kick happened in January, the court case took place in March, as did the Academy Awards - so we mention that too.Tell us your goody-bag related stories on imsonotoverit@gmail.com or through one of the following social media accounts...BlueSky: @imsonotoveritInstagram: @imsonotoveritTikTok: @imsonotoveritTheme music by Alex_Kizenkov from Pixabay.I'm So Not Over It is A Mighty Bunny Production.
  • March 2017 (£1)

    21:43|
We've checked and, yes, this is our most modern episode to-date, so you're forgiven for thinking the new £1 coin only appeared recently, or for not realizing that you've already seen your final Crimewatch. Esyllt Sears has the lowdown on both of these things, as well as making her pitch to join the police force.Get in touch on imsonotoverit@gmail.com or through one of the following social media accounts...BlueSky: @imsonotoveritInstagram: @imsonotoveritTikTok: @imsonotoveritTheme music by Alex_Kizenkov from Pixabay.I'm So Not Over It is A Mighty Bunny Production.
  • February 2004 (Yes, February 2004. Again)

    26:09|
What happened immediately after the Super Bowl half-time show? How much money do you get for whipping your clothes off at a major sporting event? And how DO you pronounce "Houston"? It turns out there were a lot of unanswered questions after last week's show. A whole episode's worth, in fact. As such, Esyllt Sears is tackling February 2004 all over again. Yes, it's another wardrobe malfunction at Super Bowl XXXVIII - but not the one you're thinking of. Get set for another 20+ minutes about February 2004 (and, once again, Gareth Gwynn has cut out all the bits about WMDs).
