I'm So Not Over It

BENJAMIN PARTRIDGE on May 1996 (live from Machynlleth Comedy Festival)

We're excited to say we are joined by the brains behind the Beef and Dairy Network and one third of Three Bean Salad, Benjamin Partridge - Live from Machynlleth Comedy Festival!

As well as learning how Benjamin spent the Millennium, his relationship with the millennium dome and his Xennial Dome choice, we take a deep dive into May 1996, the era of Gina G and Lynx Inca. You'll undoubtedly want to check-out the many and various things mentioned in the show, so lets get stuck in with a bunch of links...

Barry Welsh Is Coming

The best of the first couple of series is on YouTube here.

There's a playlist of later episodes here.

Eurovision 1996

Gina G's Eurovision performance is here.

I also heartily recommend this video by YouTuber morbidsearch entitled "Why 1996 was the WEIRDEST Eurovision Ever".

While I'm here, a small factual correction, the next TOTAL solar eclipse in the UK isn't due to happen until 2090, so even further away than I thought. Best of luck to those who think they can make it.

BBC Radio Wales

Gareth and Esyllt's Scrapbook is a brand new show on BBC Radio Wales (and BBC Sounds, obviously!), starting on 16th May 2026. In each episode we'll tackle two years with archive, music and guests - with the first episode featuring Josie Long and Sunil Patel as we pull apart 1999 and 1984. We're currently planning episodes later in the run so would love to know your memories of 1982, 1992, 1994 and 2005. Do drop us a line by email or on any of the socials before May 16th, and you might get a shout-out on the show later in the series.

Other Projects

Probably as good a time as any to remind you that Esyllt has another podcast, Speaking As A Mother, with Robin Morgan. Gareth doesn't have another podcast, but would like you to come and see his show Cyril in Brighton or Edinburgh if you're about.

Come along!Other show's we'll be doing at Machynlleth Comedy Festival:First Dates Motel with Esyllt Sears and Robin Morgan - Friday 1st May at 9pm8 Out Of 10 Celts with Esyllt Sears, Mary Flanigan and Eleanor Morton - Sunday 3rd May at 12pmGareth Gwynn: Cyril - Sunday 3rd May at 4pmAs for this show? It all kicks off with an email from Kate about Labyrinth, a big (and scary) film from 1989 so we cover films and TV which had a lasting impression on you before moving on to the month of April when everyone was on strike, but the Game Boy hadn't quite reached Britain, so goodness knows how everyone filled their time. Full disclosure, that was me spelling it the wrong way by mistake, not noticing till it arrived on everyone's podcast feeds then going to change it and deciding it was probably funnier in the light of all the other Welsh people mentioned in that episode that I'd spelled it the Welsh way and looked like a funny joke - so just decided to leave it. Anyway, it's another Welsh-heavy episode this week. There was a UK census in 1981 but it was the question regarding Welsh speakers, and the rather disappointing answer it returned, that loomed large in Esyllt's life. We talk about lying about eating Weetabix, why women are being replaced with birds and consider talking about Bucks Fizz and then don't.We've got a BBC Radio Wales show coming up. You can cope with that though, can't you? It's 1987 - The world is preparing for Timothy Dalton's Bond debut, but we're more interested in a future famous face popping up in Pobol Y Cwm, Esyllt Sears describes the celebrity she couldn't resist shouting their catchphrase at, there's a very confusing diversion about religion and then we discuss whether Van Gough's Sunflowers are all they're cracked up to be.We've got a BBC Radio Wales show coming up. Remember what the world smelt-like pre-2006? We do. And in an ideal world, you'd enjoy this episode about the smoking ban in a room thick with smoke, after which, you'd have the intense and urgent need to wash your clothes and hair as fast as possible. What nonchalant activity do you think could replace smoking? • St. David's Day with SIAN HARRIES

    01:03:34|
It's St David's Day!(Or it is on March 1st, so it slightly depends when you listen to this episode). Either way, we've decided to do an episode that is unambiguously and unashamedly Welsh. I mean, they ALL are really, but this time we're going to lean into it - and who better to talk about all things Dewi Sant than the superb Welsh comedy writer SIAN HARRIES!Sian is the co-writer of the hit BBC One comedy-drama Death Valley, Channel 4's Man Down, is one of the writers and stars of BBC One Wales' Tourist Trap and the S4C sketch show O'r Diwedd. She also co-presents The Froth Podcast with Rhod Gilbert. Sian talks us through some of the most miserable meals and uncomfortable costumes you've ever heard about, as well as a blow-by-blow account of the secondary school Eisteddfod experience. There's plenty of picking apart the difference between English-language and Welsh-language Wales, as well as Sian's selection for The Xennial Dome, lots of relevant Winter Olympic discussion and memories of looking sad in a shoe shop at the death of Princess Diana.Sian mentions a school Eisteddfod performance with Elis James - Don't forget you can hear his episode, live from the London Welsh Centre, here. You can get in touch with the show on imsonotoverit@gmail.com or contact us on one of the following...BlueSky: @imsonotoveritInstagram: @imsonotoveritTikTok: @imsonotoveritTheme music by Alex_Kizenkov from Pixabay.I'm So Not Over It is a Mighty Bunny Production.
  • February 1977 (Morph)

    22:17|
Hello, can I interest you in some links?Gareth Gwynn at Leicester Comedy Festival on Wednesday!Esyllt and 8 Out Of 10 Celts at Leicester Comedy Festival this week!Esyllt's new podcast - Speaking As A Mother, forever! We're in a cafe again! But don't worry - this time, it's planned. We were on our way to record an episode with the brilliant comedy writer Sian Harries for St David's Day, but before that, we had time for a quick catch-up and a run through the key goings on from February 1977.We briefly mention Fleetwood Mac, a band we've already covered in the episode Little Dome: September 1977 (Atari 2600, Fleetwood Mac, Bing Crosby and David Bowie), but with that out of the way we can get onto the matter of Tony Hart, Pat Keysell, Vision On, Take Hart, Neil Buchanan (the shadow Tony Hart) and, man of the hour, Morph. What do you think an 18+ Morph series should be called? First up, some links...Gareth Gwynn at Leicester Comedy FestivalEsyllt and 8 Out Of 10 Celts at Leicester Comedy FestivalEsyllt's new podcast - Speaking As A Mother (I'll give you the Insta link and you can work it out from there). And then the show itself. Well, this one doesn't go to plan. We're live from a cafe in the Tate Britain so this is as much as we could record before we got thrown out. Any more detail than that, right now, is superfluous, save to say, we WILL do another episode from the same location in, I'm guessing, about a year.
