28th (North Gloucestershire) Foot

Ep. 6

Watch the episode at: http://www.youtube.com/@TheWaterlooPodcast-ks4ox

My name is Martin Aaron, I'm a lecturer at University College London. Since the year 2000 I’ve been building a database of the British army at Waterloo. By compiling original records from the Public Record office and regimental archives, I’ve gathered information about each of the 33,000 British combatants in 1815. This podcast series examines that data.

Many thanks to: Andrew Baillie, Mick Richards, Stephen Humphries, Arthur Hayward, Jonathan Fitchett, Ben Roberts, Paul Hayward, Diogo Vasconcellos, Steve Farley

My apologies to Steve Brown whose excellent article on the 28th available here https://www.napoleon-series.org/military-info/organization/Britain/Infantry/Regiments/c_28thFoot.html I incorrectly credited to Ron McGuigan - I will add an addendum to the next episode!

  • 13. 16th Light Dragoons

    29:20||Ep. 13
    Third and final part of this look at Vandeleur's brigade in 1815. The 16th Light Dragoons were an experienced regiment of Peninsula veterans. Later, after Waterloo, the regiment was converted to lancers and, after a royal scandal, banished to India for 25 years. Erratum - I refer to the superb research of Janet and David Bromley and their work "Wellington's Men Remembered" but accidentally say "Bentley" rather than "Bromley". Early senility setting in - apologies!Watch the full presentation here - https://youtu.be/ZfB6-zesA54 and please Like and SubscribeNext time: another RHA Troop - this time Whinyates' Rocket TroopContact: waterloopodcast@outlook.com - volunteers to read a few lines always very welcome

At Waterloo they suffered the highest casualties of all the British light cavalry regiments (excluding the King's German Legion) in their attempt to support the heavy cavalry charges of the Household and Union Brigades.
