This morning Michael D McAndrew was joined by concerned listener and natives of Cong Co. Mayo Sinéad O'Brien and Aisling Scott who discussed their concerns and frustrations regarding the Cong Relief Road Scheme. Proposals are currently being formulated for a Relief Road Scheme that will serve to address traffic and transport needs at Cong Village by Mayo County Council in association with Galway County Council and the Department of Transport. Michael D, Sinéad and Aisling were also joined by Ballinrobe-based councillor Michael Burke who spoke on the issue. Cllr Michael Burke also later confirmed that the closing date for comments or observations in respect to the proposed scheme had been extended to February the 21st. This morning Michael D McAndrew was joined by Tony O'Reilly gambling therapist and mentor for the gambling awareness trust in Tacú Family Resource centre Ballinrobe. The gambling support service is being launched this month. Tony spoke of his own experiences and how he has used them to help others and continues to do so. This morning Rian Bailey was joined by Super Junior Minister at the Department of Transport Seán Canney who spoke on the reduction of speed limits on local rural roads from 80km/h to 60 km/h. This change will come into effect from tomorrow February 7th. Rian and Seán were also joined by a number of listeners who presented questions to the minister on the topic. The listener spoke of the upset following the passing of their uncle in England and how they are still awaiting the release of their uncle's body a month later. Today the 4th of February is World Cancer Day. This morning Rian Bailey who joined by Rita Casey who discussed her cancer journey. He was also joined by Professor Deirdre Connolly Professor in Occupational Therapy and head of the Can Work Study. This study is being conducted by Trinity College and is supported by Mayo Cancer Support Association. It is geared at those planning to return to work following treatment for breast cancer.
