Irene and Grace Lynch Fund

Tommy spoke with Dympna Lynch, sister of Irene Lynch, a 39 year old mother who died in a tragic car accident while 20 weeks pregnant, with her unborn daughter, Grace. Dympna and the Lynch family are now raising funds to help cover funeral costs and help her three children who are devastated at the loss of their mum.

She spoke on her own experience and the event that C.A.P are organising for parents and carers of individuals with additional support needs. Michael John Casey started off the conversation by speaking of his elderly neighbours' plight having been without a landline or mobile service in their home for the last 10 weeks. Tommy also spoke with Séamus Boland CEO of Irish Rural Link spoke on how they are calling for more support for community and voluntary sectors to prepare for extreme weather. Listener Julia spoke of her experience on having to cope without her sleep apnoea machine during the storm. Cllr Gerry Coyne also weighed in on the aftermath of the storm in the Erris area. Michael, Nancy and Marie all disagreed with this. They shared their love stories having met and married their spouses from as little as 6 weeks to a year and are all still happily married after over 50 years! It has been announced by the University of Galway that Professor Robert Scully has been appointed as the first Established Professor of Rural and Remote Medicine in Ireland. The University of Galway is preparing to launch an innovative four-year Graduate Entry Medicine (GEM) programme which is designed to attract a diverse range of graduates and deliver high-quality accelerated medical training with a strong focus on rural and regional healthcare needs.     This morning brother of Jennifer Poole and key representative of the campaign Jason Poole joined Tommy Marren on the show to discuss the Jennie's Law campaign. Jennie's Law is advocating for the creation of a Domestic Abuse Register in Ireland. In 2021 Jennifer Poole lost her life when she was stabbed to death by her ex partner. Jennifer's ex partner had been convicted for the assault of his former partner but she was not aware of his abusive history. The goal of the campaign is to raise awareness and protect individuals who are at risk by ensuring convicted domestic abusers are listed on a national register. You can hear the full interview here.
