#019 No movement is bad movement, context matters

Ep. 19

Episode 19 of "The Tommy Brideson Show"

We need to move away from labelling movements or exercises as bad.

Exercises and movements are simply tools we use to get an outcome. At times they may not be suited to you because of an injury, inability to perform with good technique or just too advanced but this doesn't just then put them into a category of being bad.

Its simply not the right tool at this point in time.

  • 24. #24 Rehab should be part of training, not something you book once injured

    23:43||Ep. 24
    Episode 24 of "The Tommy Brideson Show"If you think about your training like this, you will be able to really get so much value from it.Your movement prep, rehab and prehab is building qualities you want from the ground up.Your training itself is working back from your end point which in most cases will be increasing muscle and strength.This is why I always say; coaching is rehab & rehab is coaching
  • 23. #023 What it actually takes to be great in the gym and life

    17:09||Ep. 23
    Episode 23 of "The Tommy Brideson Show"I often say to people be in a hurry to get great but know that the results you want will take time. You need to spend time learning and developing as this sets the platform for your future successes. In a world where people want results instantly, its important to remember that people we hold in high regard have all spent the time learning and developing. Yes you may see them smashing life and you want a slice of the action. Just remember that they all hold themselves accountable to the standard and goals they want to achieve, so set a plan and execute my friends.
  • 22. #022 Using training as a tool to improve your life

    14:49||Ep. 22
    Episode 22 of "The Tommy Brideson Show"Training is one of the most potent ways to improve on all aspects of your life. Training for a specific outcome such as building strength or muscle mass is a given when you show up and follow a structured training and nutrition program. I would argue that the even more impactful part of training is that it cannot be bought or given to you. You need to earn your right to become better. Following a process and continually stacking up your wins is without a doubt even more impactful that the training outcome itself. The way you approach training will often impact how you approach your day to day. If you win in the gym it sets you up to win at life.
  • 21. #021 Increasing your lat strength is not the solution to your shoulder pain

    12:40||Ep. 21
    Episode 21 of "The Tommy Brideson Show"The shoulder is a complex joint. You need a combination of range of movement, stability and control to execute movements effectively. In more cases than not, one muscle isn't going to solve all your problems.Strengthening a weak muscle can help if you fall into that category but there are often more pieces to the puzzle that should also be addressed. • 20. #020 Why you shouldn’t copy your favourite lifters technique

    19:17||Ep. 20
    Episode 20 of "The Tommy Brideson Show"If you are trying to emulate your favourite lifters technique, this is not your best strategy to becoming a more technical lifter. Every person has different body proportions, so your technique will look different. You will still follow the same principles of lifting but positioning, cueing and overall look will be very different. Connect with Tommy:InstagramYoutubetommybrideson.com (coming soon)
  • 18. #018 Your training is not functional, the outcome is

    12:24||Ep. 18
    Episode 18 of "The Tommy Brideson Show"A marketing message that many trainers and gyms will tap into is the idea of "Functional Training". Straight up lets address this. There is no such thing as functional training. The outcome of your training is what is functional. If you need to develop strength, use tools to help you develop strength. If you need more muscle mass, use tools that help you build muscle. Simple right? So lets forget "Functional Training" and use training simply as a tool to get an outcome that will either help you in your sport or life. • 17. #017 Why coaching systems are better than reactive training approaches

    11:54||Ep. 17
    Episode 17 of "The Tommy Brideson Show"I am a big believer in coaching systems that have been built around a solid set of training principles. As a coach or practitioner, it will allow you to pressure test your thoughts and process, capture invaluable data to see if you are being effective and make changes where needed. This will allow you to get better results for the people you work with and become more effective with your prescription of exercise methods and selection.
