In Safe Hands : How safeguarding failures led to the loss of my daughter

Season 1, Ep. 1

Warning: This episode features sensitive topics: In Safe Hands is a podcast about safeguarding, told through real stories and real voices. Each episode centres lived experience from across sport and beyond, creating space for people to share their experiences of effective safeguarding, as well as the consequences when systems fail.

In Episode One, Vicky Collins, Designated Safeguarding Officer at Staffordshire FA, is joined by Kay Speedman, who speaks openly about her experience and the devastating loss of her daughter due to safeguarding failures.

With a particular focus on football, In Safe Hands explores the lessons the game must learn to better protect children, young people and adults at risk. Through honest conversations with survivors, practitioners and those driving change, the podcast goes beyond policy and procedures to examine culture, power and accountability.

This is not about headlines or hindsight. It’s about listening, learning and doing better — so that safeguarding in football, and in society, truly keeps people in safe hands.
