Our politics has been broken for awhile. Our political system is in desperate need of reform. Our political class hasn't been listening to the American people for a long time. So it's not a surprise that a horrible demagogue like Trump would come on the scene.

Like me, Mitt Romney believes Donald Trump is unfit to be President. And like me, Mitt fears for the personal safety of himself & his family if Trump becomes President. But unlike me, Mitt won't vote for Kamala Harris. He won't vote for the ONLY person who can keep Trump out of power. So...does Mitt really believe Trump is a threat? Does he really?

Chris Christie yesterday said Donald Trump is to blame for Mark Robinson. Bullshit. Trump isn't to blame. Republican voters are. They chose Robinson. Just like they chose Kari Lake. Just like they chose Trump. Respectfully, it's time for tough love for Trump voters.

Former Republican Congressman Joe Walsh and Fred Guttenberg have strongly opposing political views. Walsh is an ardent gun rights advocate, and Guttenberg, whose 14-year-old daughter was killed in the 2018 Parkland School shooting, is a prominent gun safety activist. In this recording from the Hopkins Bloomberg Center of the live discussion between the two, moderated by Leah Wright Rigueur, a SNF Agora Institute Associate Professor of History, we hear from Walsh and Guttenberg as they tell their story of how two people who are diametrically opposed on politics and policy can lower the temperature and start listening to one another.

Mark Robinson is no surprise. And the problem isn't that he wasn't vetted. He was better and Republican voters didn't care about the bad horrible stuff he's said and done. Kind of like how they are with Trump. The problem isn't Mark Robinson. The problem is the folks voting for Mark Robinson.

Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe there's enough people who can't stand Trump that Harris can just ride the vibe to victory. But I think she'd increase her odds if she held press conferences and town halls. And...our immigration system is broken. It can't be ignored, it shouldn't be demagogued, it must be fixed. 

Everything they say, everything they do is about dividing the American people. Maybe this will work again. But I hope not. I hope there are more Americans who don't want this country to be so dangerously divided.
