How great was it to get an email from a fascinating artist with a podcast to promote? Sure beats those emails that I get from people who tell me that they love my book! (Spoiler alert:I've never written a book. Unless they've stolen my coloring books from the Sherpa Chalet.) So, Steve had literally walked the equivalent of 13 miles, while there was a snowstorm brewing on Mount Podcastia (It's winter here; it's a mountain. You can do the math.), which created an interesting atmosphere for an interview.HIs podcast is unique, and very well done. And please check out the COOL artwork on his website (listed below). Before I interviewed John, or his co-author Jason Norman, I emailed them to let them know that the purpose of my interview was not to re-try the incident of March 30, 1981, nor was this a podcast with a political agenda. (If you read the book, politics didn't play a part in the assassination attempt on President Reagan, anyway) All I asked for was a conversation about the book,and nothing more. Both of them were kind enough to grant me that. Obviously, those of you who have listened long enough know that I'm no lawyer, psychologist, or political pundit. But this is what I do. I've always said the stories I bring to this podcast will likely appeal to different emotions. This is one of those episodes that will likely provoke different reactions from different people. I'm proud to say that I've always made the decisions about what goes into my podcast, and one thing I keep out is hate. I didn't hear any hate in John's voice, nor in his words, and if there was, this episode wouldn't exist. I guarantee you that. I respect your opinions as listeners of this podcast if you feel otherwise about this interview, but having read "Who I Really Am" and spoken to the authors, I was able to learn more about this brief, horrific incident, and the remorse of the man who put it into motion.
