Ep 6 - Double Feature: KINGDOM OF THE PLANET OF THE APES / WHITE GOD

Season 1, Ep. 6

The Scot and the Swede start off strong talking about the weather… just some top notch-podcasting this. But do not fret! The discussion rapidly devolves into colonialism, ape-sex and killing dogs as they do a double feature on the new Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and the Hungarian indie-fable White God. Mårten is determined to alienate most of our audience with his morbid would-you-rathers and Josh conveniently forgets paedophilic subplots as long as there’s some cute dogs onscreen. Is this the episode they get cancelled? Let’s find out!

Josh also recommends a new Netflix-sensation with roots in lovely Fife and Mårten finally takes the lid off the Ingmar Bergman-embargo.

  • 5. Ep 5 - Double Feature: THE ZONE OF INTEREST / DEAD SNOW

    01:29:30||Season 1, Ep. 5
    In Episode 5 the Scot and Swede take aim at the baddest of baddies: on-screen Nazis! Pairing this year's The Zone of Interest with the early noughty’s winter zombie film Dead Snow. Josh and Mårten discuss the humanization and dehumanization of history’s most heinous political movement, modern complicity in swipe-pastable activism and even the far right’s rise in Scandinavia… before descending into the blood spattered, penis-biting, snowmobile murdering, frozen gutters of Død snø (pronounced often, but badly, by Josh the Scot).The Scot then recommends a wholesome Scottish drama where we all learn the value of community, whiskey and badly shot star scenes. Our Swedish recommend is a less uplifting TV drama following a Swedish serial killer giving the Scot and the Swede an excuse to muse over the ethics of true crime shows in 2024.00:00:00 - Intro00:05:46 - The Zone of Interest (spoiler-free)00:27:50 - The Zone of Interest (spoilers)00:43:20 - Dead Snow (spoiler-free)01:04:28 - Dead Snow (spoilers)01:14:50 - The Scot recommends something Scottish01:19:09 - The Swede recommends something Swedish01:28:39 - Outro
  • 4. Ep 4 - Double Feature: DUNE: PART 2 / JUPITER ASCENDING

    01:50:27||Season 1, Ep. 4
    The Scot and the Swede will treat you to another double feature, this time a space opera extravaganza; discussing sci-fi geopolitics, blood orgies and acid flashbacks in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part 2 before getting into the subtleties with which the Wachowskis and Mila Kunis characterize their trope-suberting sci-fi hero in Jupiter Ascending. In the end Josh has hunted down a Scottish Netflix thriller and Mårten delivers a deep cut from the Stellan Skarsgård-archives.00:00:00 - Intro00:01:28 - Mårten watched Wonka00:03:40 - Todays double feature00:04:43 - Josh watched Reality00:07:15 - Dune: Part 2 (spoiler-free)00:55:15 - Dune: Part 2 (spoilers)01:13:24 - Jupiter Ascending (some spoilers)01.42:15 - The Scot recommends something Scottish01:46:33 - The Swede recommends something Swedish01:50:06 - Outro

    51:21||Season 1, Ep. 3
    The Scot and the Swede continue listing the best films of 2023! A bit late recorded and even later posted, as evident by our extremely outdated oscar-predictions BUT WHOOO CARES! Listen in as we reveal the unexpected best Christmas movie of the year and finally reveal our #1 films of 2023, with the sound of Josh's girlfriend cooking dinner in the background. In the end Mårten recommends a Swedish porn-film (what's he like), and Josh fishes out some grisly Scottish magic realism. 00:00:00 - Intro00:00:52 - Mårten’s #5 - Infinity Pool00:05:26 - Mårten’s #4 - Saltburn00:05:58 - Mårten’s #3 - Oppenheimer00:08:00 - Mårten’s #2 - The Gullspång Miracle00:11:40 - Josh’s #5 - The Boy and the Heron00:16:15 - Josh’s #4 - Tár00:21:10 - Josh’s #3 - Theater Camp00:23:47 - Josh’s #2 - Barbie00:28:56 - Mårten’s #1 film of 202300:32:38 - Josh’s #1 film of 202300:36:14 - Spoilers for Josh’s #100:39:32 - Stinkers of 202300:44:56 - The Swedish recommendation 00:47:44 - The Scottish recommendation00:51:03 - Outro
  • 2. Ep 2 - Top 10 Films of 2023 (part 1)

    01:21:02||Season 1, Ep. 2
    The Scot and the Swede stumble into another episode to list our top 10 films of 2023. Bit late to the party, but we've been busy.Nerd out with us as we nitpick the best films of the year for brandwashing, dog-killings and confusing twist endings as well as arrogantly proposing our own rewrites. Josh also recommends a Scottish thriller with an accompanying Peter Mullan-sandwich story and Mårten talks about a certain quirky film director named Andersson with a very distinct color palette (probably not the one you're thinking about).00:00:00 - Intro00:04:55 - Mårten’s near misses00:07.33 - Mårten’s #10 - Barbie00:16:05 - Mårten’s #9 - Spider-Man: Across the Spider-verse00:20:49 - Mårten’s #8 - Anatomy of a Fall00:21:30 - Mårten’s #7 - Paradise is Burning00:23:27 - Mårten’s #6 - The Creator00:30:07 - Josh’s near misses00:34:25 - Josh’s #10 - Wonka00:36:40 - Josh’s #9 - Past Lives00:38:48 - Josh’s #8 - Godzilla Minus One00:44:40 - Josh’s #7 - Saltburn00:48:54 - Saltburn Spoilers00:53:41 - Josh’s #6 - Oppenheimer01:03:29 - The Swedish recommendation01.10:13 - The Scottish recommendation 01:19:40 - Outro
  • 1. Ep 1 - Double Feature: POOR THINGS / EASY A

    01:41:41||Season 1, Ep. 1
    For our first episode, we pair Poor Things (2023) with Easy A (2010) to discuss Emma Stone, Spider-Man cast crossovers and even make a courageous attempt to touch on the difficulties for women to exercise sexual agency in a corrupt, patriarchal system... Yup. If you also have been thinking that we need a podcast where boys talk about movies made by boys, that deal with the hardships of female sexuality. Think no more!The Scot and the Swede will delve deep into the weeds of duck-pigs and bubble-burps in Yorgos Lanthimos psychadelic fairytale.Before we get to the bottom of whether Stanley Tucci was Emma Stone's biological father and what the heck is up with all those oranges in Easy A?Josh also has a classic Scottish folk horror to recommend, while Mårten watched a Swedish documentary and finally realised that all docus aren't boring.00:00 - Intro 03:15 - Poor Things spoiler-free review   31:37 - Poor Things spoilers  45:48 - Easy A spoiler-free review1:14:33 - Easy A spoilers1:30:53 - The Scottish recommendation1:36:37 - The Swedish recommendation1:40:46 - Outro
