Clarifications on School Principal's Hiring
01:42|Corrections and Clarifications: Lizcett Porrass Hiring Last month, we shared a story about Lizcett Porras, the principal at a troubled school in the South Bay. Were now issuing corrections to set the record straight on a few important points. First, we incorrectly stated that a district official named Romero was fired. He actually resigned, with a unanimous school board trustees approval on December seventeenth. The resignation agreement included an undisclosed severance payment, but no specific reason was given. The investigation leading up to his resignation focused on after-hours use of a football field by a nonprofit youth flag football league, where Romero volunteers as a coach. This had nothing to do with Porras, hiring practices, or any issues in the districts human resources department. We also want to clarify that the district found no wrongdoing by Romero. He was placed on administrative leave to protect the football field investigation, not because of a separate audit that flagged problems in human resources hiring and record-keeping. All information about Porrass hiring is still accurate. She didnt meet the minimum qualifications, went through a multi-step interview, and had a connection to Romeros wife. But our story didnt mean to suggest Romero improperly influenced her selection. His attorney confirmed he stayed out of it. Weve updated the original piece and regret any confusion.
