  • EP 517: Building Maven with Brendon Weaver

    01:04:27|
It has been really cool to watch Brendon and the team build Maven out of nothing over the years. From the first time I met Brendon and we chatted about his vision for a new optics company I was sold. Not only do they have a great product but I recognized the vision he had. In our last podcast we talked about How the idea for Maven Optics came about and the seemingly random turn of events that led a high school art teach and coach to launching one of the most disruptive new optics companies to hit the market in our generation. If you want to listen to that on check it out here. This week Brendon joins me to chat more about entrepreneurship and advice to building a great brand. I my opinion Brendon has done a great job growing the brand and staying on brand with everything they do. In this podcast we talk about the importance of knowing where you are going and how only seeking dollars will not get you where you want. We also cover some of the new products that maven has come out with this year and some tips on how to choose your next optic. This podcast brought to you by the awesome folks at Maven Built Optics. Maven is such a cool company and a great group of people. I also love that they are a small Wyoming company making big waves. Maven is a direct to consumer optics company which means they don’t have huge mark ups. One of the most common questions you guys the listeners ask me is to compare mavens to something at an equal price point. I can’t say it enough Maven blows everything in a similar price point out of the water. Stop comparing products based on price. This is why I say Maven is the best bang for your buck by far and away, it's not even close. Good glass is a must have. From their rifle scopes to binoculars, and spotters I highly recommend their optics. They also have a custom optics builder which is really cool. You can jump on their website MavenBuilt.com and design your optics with custom patterns or custom colors the options are pretty endless. Check them out at Mavenbuilt.com and use the "TRO-GIFT" code to get a special bonus gift with your purchase.Show Notes: Start - Brendon & Maven Today - 0m 55sMavens Culture & Ideal Future - 11m 34sStruggles: Brand vs Sales - 18m 16sBuilding a Brand & Company with Quality Products - 25m 33sManaging Product Lines & Market Research - 32m 34sMaven Sale, Promo Code & Brendon's Picks - 55m 59s
  • WW AMA: Early Season and Drought Condition

    01:15:03|
Thank you to everyone who submitted questions, we had a ton of great ones and a number of them I wouldn't think to ask. This should definitely be a thing we do more often during the fall. This round Jon Gabrio joins me and we cover as many of your questions as we could. A lot of them were around fires, drought, and early season tactics which we tried to cover.I want to give a shout out to Jon and his course the The Elk Collective. The Collective is just what it says a massive collective of elk knowledge from multiple teachers that will take you from amateur to expert. • EP 516: Creative Careers with Craig Francis

    01:26:48|
Those who are interested in being a creative, Craig Francis @craigfrancisphoto has been doing some really cool AMA style videos on Instagram and they are great content. Craig provides a ton of value and though I don't consider myself a creative their is a ton of valuable information. In this podcast Craig and I dive into career advice both for outdoor industry as well as any industry really. I really appreciate Craigs backstory of being at a bit of a dead end, feeling like his life was not where it should be and then making a deliberate change. We dive into the creative side, aka photo/video of the hunting industry and some deep topics like working at an agency vs a brand.  We also talk about books and influences that have shaped his career.Shoe Notes:Start - Impactful Books - 0m 52sCreative Input & Imposter Syndrome - 4m 34sCraig's Career & AMAs - 11m 44sPursuing Passion & Adapting Your Career - 23m 6sAgencies & Brand Rep - 40m 14sAdvice Looking Back - 51m 19sPurpose in Life & Goals - 60m 32sAmbition & Contentment - 72m 40sBooks for Creatives - 79m 19sCraigs Insta & AMAs - 85m 4s
  • EP 515: Solo HNTR Tim Burnett

    01:08:27|
Last week I bombed out to the Pope & Young 60th anniversary to check out some amazing bow hunting stuff. I happened to catch up with Tim who I haven't seen in probably a couple of  years. In my Opinion Solo HNTR is one of my favorite content channels. I think Tim is doing well as an entrepreneur despite what he would say! In this podcast we talk about his recent project of opening an archery shop in Reno and catch up about the behind the scenes of the Solo HNTR brand.Show Notes: Start - Talking Hunting Legends - 0m 51sTim's Start & Early Days - 8m 59sSuccess, Weaknesses, & Entrepreneur Life - 11m 6sTim Life Growing Up - 16m 40sPersonal Brands & Self Critique - 23m 27sSocial Media, Amazon & Other Platforms - 29m 25sFacing Failure & Tim's Grizzly Hunt - 43m 26sTim's Dream Hunts & New Archery Shop - 52m 15s
  • Hunt Elk Like it's a Once in a Lifetime Tag with Justin Helvik

    01:09:52|
If you want a hunting story that is going to fire you up for season, listen to this podcast! Justin is a beast, he has DIY'd all of his trophy game tags, he's killed some absolute monster bucks, not to mention his canyoneering, and mountaineering feats. Last year he set a goal to put that same effort into killing a good bull and boy did he accomplish that goal. The best part about this elk hunting story is that Justin didn't spend weeks, or even pay some trespass fee. Justin is a weekend warrior on public ground who just worked his butt off and found a giant in that one place his gut always told him there would be one. This is an EPIC hunting story.Show Notes: Start - Justin's Tags & 2021 Season - 0m 37sJustin's 2020 Bull Story - 46sDown to the Wire - 45m 7sAn Anxious Morning - 54m 15sLooking Back - 60m 50sClosing Thoughts - 66m 45s
  • EP 514: Hunting in Bear Country, What you Need to Know with Razco Holsters

    01:18:21|
Hunting in bear country this year? Justin Rasmussen has spent his fair share of time around bears and teaches a good amount of bear safety. He also happens to own a holster company that designs a holster for better bear protection. That might make him a bit biased toward guns over spray but we have a great conversation around the two and why both have their place. We also cover a lot of great tips about bear posture and be aware while in bear country.I have personally struggled with what to do once an animal is down and we cover some tips for processing your game quickly in bear country. I am not entirely sure if this podcast is going to make you more confident or more concerned about heading in to the hills filled with giant furry tractors just an FYI. We do tell some fairly scary stories and Grizzly attacks are no joke. Either way this is important info to arm yourself with.Todays episode is made possible by Maven Optics an amazing Wyoming based optics company that I absolutely love. Whether you are in the market for rifle scopes or Bino's Maven is the Company I would recommend hands down. I run the B series bino's and in my opinion these are hands down the best bang for your buck. This year I got a pair of b.5 15x56's and let me just say I am in love. I plan on using the b.5's a lot this year. I have seen a been open country hunters who run only 15's so I thought what the heck I'll give it a try. I also just picked up an RS.3 rifle scope and will be using that on top of my 300 HCA some rifle hunts. Maven makes really high quality stuff and for the price you can't touch it. The one thing you will hear great hunters say over and over is invest in quality glass. If you want to upgrade your hunting skills, head over to MavenBuilt .com and upgrade our glass. Use Code "TRO" for a special gift with purchaseThis podcast is brought to you by On X Maps. On X has some really big updates and some cool features this year. One really big feature is the new 3D mapping on desktop. As I spend more time e-scouting than actually scouting these days thanks to that dad life, the new 3d mapping has been awesome. I find myself using google earth less and less and its just easy to e-scout all within On X. Another tip as we approach season, Make sure your account is up to date before season arrives and be sure to also download maps. this time of year I go through and re download any maps I will need for upcoming hunts so there is just one less thing to worry about. Use the "TRO" code to save 20% of your on x membership.
