Ep.32 Shirley Wardle | From Burnout To Balance

Ep. 32

We’re diving into something so many of us have faced at some point in our lives: Burnout. It can creep in and take a serious toll on our health and well-being as well as impact those around us. In this episode of the Power Of Women podcast, I engage in a candid discussion with Shirley Wardle, an Australian-born, UK-based female executive who has navigated a remarkable career across multiple industries—including telecommunications, media & broadcast, and cybersecurity. Despite her impressive achievements, the relentless pace and high-stakes demands of corporate life took their toll, leading her to the brink of burnout. Shirley opens up about her journey through the corporate ranks, the warning signs she ignored, and the turning point that forced her to reset. The turning point is still raw & still elicits an emotional reaction when talking about it. After stepping away from her executive role, she discovered a new path to balance and well-being. Shirley has just launched a rejuvenating Pilates oasis in the heart of Kent, UK—a project that symbolises her commitment to both physical and mental health. Listen to how Shirley transformed burnout into a fresh start, what she learned about maintaining well-being in high-pressure environments, and how she's using her experience to help others find balance in their own lives.

  • 39. Ep.39 Penny Locaso | Are You An Expert?

    31:51||Ep. 39
    Are you or do you identify as an expert?In her recent research, Penny Locaso was curious about women, who were clearly experts in their field, struggling to identify as such. So, as a Behavioural Scientist, Penny went to the evidence to understand; What is it that makes someone an expert, and why are so few women prepared to identify as one?What she found, was this misnomer in society – that experts were born. How can that be? Expertise is not something we are born with. This was the basis for Penny’s recently released whitepaper, Hidden Figures, which highlights; women of impact are made not born. The importance of this being, women can see, it is possible for them to become an expert.This week’s episode of the Power Of Women podcast with Di Gillett and Penny Locaso, may just challenge you to own it – and a warning, Penny doesn’t hold back. New episodes drop every Monday to power your week. KEY TOPICS:00:00 – Introduction01:26 – Women Of Impact Are Made Not Born02:14 – The Definition of Expert08:56 –Purpose Driven Entrepreneurship09:45 – What Holds Women Back From Advocating For Themselves14:46 – Women’s Relationship With the Word Expert17:15 – Research Findings20:24 – Just Own It!20:58 – The Humble Brag22:21 – Jack – This Is For You!23:05 – Levelling The Playing Field25:02 – The Authority Gap WHO IS PENNY LOCASO?A highly credentialed behavioural scientist, impact expert and mentor to women around the globe.
