Chevy Recalls Equinox EVs for Pedestrian Safety Issue

Chevy Recalls Equinox EVs: Pedestrian Alert Sound System Issue Puts Pedestrians at Risk Chevy has issued a recall for its Equinox electric vehicles from model years 2025 and 2026 due to a problem with the pedestrian alert sound system. The issue affects 81,177 cars and could put pedestrians at risk of injury. The sound system is supposed to help people outside the car know if the car is speeding up or slowing down, but in some cases, the volume changes dont match federal rules, especially when going from zero to about six miles per hour. This makes it hard for walkers to judge the cars speed. Pedestrians rely on these alerts since electric vehicles are so quiet, and officials say the faulty sounds could lead to crashes or injuries. Owners dont have to worry about costs, though, as they can head to any Chevy dealership for a free software update to the body control module, fixing the sound issue right away. Notification letters will start going out to owners on February second. If you have one of these Equinox EVs, check your mail or the NHTSA website to see if yours is included and get it sorted soon.
