Iowa National Guard Soldiers Killed in Syria

Two Iowa National Guard soldiers, Staff Sergeant Nate Howard and Staff Sergeant Edgar Torres-Tovar, tragically lost their lives in a Syrian attack by an ISIS gunman on December 13th. They, along with an American civilian interpreter, were supporting counter-ISIS and counterterrorism efforts. Three other Iowa soldiers were injured. Their bodies will return to Iowa on Wednesday, with a private, honorable transfer at the One Hundred Thirty-second Wing Air National Guard Base in Des Moines. Both soldiers were posthumously promoted to staff sergeant.
