New Crane Safety Rules in NYC After Collapse
•
New York City introduces stricter safety rules for cranes following a detailed investigation into a partial crane collapse that injured several people in Midtown last year. Diesel-powered tower cranes must now have fire suppression and detection systems, and operators and supervisors must meet stricter experience requirements. The new regulations come after a two-year investigation into a crane fire that caused a boom to detach and fall, injuring construction workers and damaging a nearby building. The investigation also found that recommendations made by the manufacturer were not being followed at the construction site.
