The Moment with Myf Warhurst

There's no one way to be a foster carer

When Anthony arrived in residential care in regional NSW and met his residential care worker Will Mafi, it was meant to be temporary - a place to land until a permanent home was found. But three years later, after other placements were explored, Anthony made a decision that changed everything: he chose to stay with Will, long-term.

On this episode of The Moment, DCJ foster carer Will joins Myf Warhurst and Lynne McGranger - Australia’s most famous (fictional!) foster carer on TV - to talk about how a single, gay, proud Tongan foster dad became exactly the person one young man needed in his corner... and why there’s no such thing as a 'right' type of foster carer.

Right now, there’s a real shortage of foster carers in New South Wales. NSW residents, if this story lands with you, search “Become a foster carer NSW” to find out more or go to nsw.gov.au/fostercare.

    24:49|
You're 40. You're supposed to have it all figured out by now. And then, quietly, everything comes apart. This is the story of what musician Eliza Hull found on the other side of her own unravelling... the anger she stopped hiding, the version of herself she'd lost touch with, and the boldest music she's ever made. Myf knows all about this chapter of coming undone and could it be the most freeing thing that can happen to a woman in midlife? Myf is fresh from hosting the ARIA Hall of Fame, where six artists were finally given their due... and she's thrilled to see women being celebrated at last, with Vika and Linda going to number one the very next day. But the new Kylie Minogue documentary has her thinking hard about how cruelly we've treated our female pop stars, from Kylie to Britney to Amy Winehouse, and why it has to stop. She also gets into the Tyra Banks lawsuit over the America's Next Top Model doco, and pays a moving tribute to the late David Hockney and the love behind his work.Stay Connected:Instagram @myfwarhurstTikTok @myfwarhurstLinkedIn Myf WarhurstGet In TouchBrands/ Partnerships: Myf@mik.studioShow CreditsHost & Executive Producer: Myf WarhurstExecutive Producer: Amelia ChappelowProducer: Roisin YauEngineer & Editing: Grant OffnerVideo Producer: Lauren CooperCopywriter & Strategy: Antonia MinutoloPhotography: Julia NallesArtwork: Brigitte GreeneSales: hello@mik.studioPartnerships: Dylan Adams hello@mik.studioThis is a MIK Made production Recorded on Wurundjeri Land

  • What playing Irene taught Lynne about foster care

    25:13|
For 32 years, Lynne McGranger played Irene Roberts on Home and Away... the woman who threw open her door to young people in need and quietly parented a whole lot of Australians along the way. This week Myf sits down with Lynne to talk about life after the show, that Gold Logie moment, and the Irene-shaped hole she's left behind.
