  • 13. Episode 13 | The Poetry Pharmacy

    10:09
Welcome to Episode 13 of ‘The Men Who: Talk’. This week we’re sharing with you a little aid we occasionally use in our men’s talking circles to bring fresh, but not necessarily new, perspective into our conversation. To complement our words, on occasion, we’ve turned to a little but much loved that provides solace and perspective. The book is called The Poetry Pharmacy, and it’s by an author called William Sieghart. The best way to describe The Poetry Pharmacy is as a light compendium of poetry and verse that Sieghart has collected over the course of his career in publishing and the arts. Alongside each poem is a short essay or passage on what that poem means to the author, on the themes that it explores and the message, or messages, it presents to the reader. Tying together both poem and essay, Sieghart has attributed a mental or emotional wellbeing experience to each, chosen on the basis that the words within can act as a balm or a remedy for many of life’s most common conditions. Together, he calls these words ‘prescriptions for the heart, mind and soul’. In this episode John shares two of these ‘prescriptions’ with you, each one relevant to our group at The Men Who: but also to the prevailing narrative of today’s complex and uncertain world. Whether you choose to read it privately or share it with your own community, we're certain that it will bring you just a little bit of inner peace and help quieten the nature of the mind. Find out more about The Poetry Pharmacy and and the author at https://poetrypharmacy.co.uk.Follow us on Instagram @themenwho_ to see what we’re up to and engage with us online. Visit our website to learn more about The Men Who:, explore our Journal and join our collective - themenwho.comContact us to learn more about The Men Who:, to discuss collaborations or how you can support our work - letstalk@themenwho.comMusic / sound credits: ‘Perspective’ by Acreage, licensed from SoundstripeDisclaimer: The Men Who: is a registered Community Interest Company in Scotland.
