Wildlife: A Glacier National Park trail in Montana is closed after bear attacks hiker

Season 1, Ep. 4633

Glacier National Park has temporarily closed a popular hiking trail following a bear attack that left a hiker injured. The incident occurred on the Highline Trail, a scenic route known for its stunning views and wildlife sightings.

According to park officials, the hiker, who was traveling alone, encountered a grizzly bear approximately five miles into the trail. The bear reportedly charged at the individual, resulting in serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The hiker was able to call for help, and emergency services quickly responded, airlifting the victim to a nearby hospital.

Park rangers have since closed the Highline Trail and surrounding areas as a precaution while they investigate the situation and monitor the bear's movements. Visitors are advised to avoid the area and remain cautious when hiking in bear country. Glacier National Park officials are also reminding hikers to carry bear spray and travel in groups when exploring the park’s backcountry trails.
