Slimming World Pioneer Margaret Miles-Bramwell Passes Away at 76
Margaret Miles-Bramwell, the visionary founder of Slimming World, passed away on Sunday morning at her home in Mallorca, surrounded by her family. She was 76 years old.
In 1969, Miles-Bramwell established Slimming World in a church hall in Alfreton, Derbyshire. Her innovative approach to weight loss emphasized respect and support, contrasting sharply with the punitive methods prevalent at the time. This philosophy resonated with many, leading to the expansion of Slimming World into a nationwide network of 10,000 groups.
Under her leadership, Slimming World collaborated with the NHS in 2000 to launch the first weight management referral scheme, allowing healthcare professionals to refer patients to Slimming World groups. In recognition of her contributions to public health, Miles-Bramwell was awarded an OBE in 2009.
Margaret Miles-Bramwell's legacy lives on through the millions of individuals she inspired and supported on their weight loss journeys.
