Population collapse is real?

Season 1, Ep. 24

According to the United Nations Population Division, the world's population is still growing and is not expected to decline significantly in the 21st century. As of January 1, 2024, the world's population was 8,019,876,189, and is projected to reach 9 billion in 2037 and 10.4 billion in the 2080s

However, some countries are experiencing population decline, including:

  • China
  • Mainland China's population has declined for two consecutive years, dropping by more than 2 million in 2023
  • Japan
  • Japan's population is aging rapidly due to low birth rates and changing lifestyles, and is expected to fall to 63 million by 2100
  • New York
  • New York has been losing population since 2016, and lost 0.5% of its population between July 2022 and June 2023
  • Europe
  • Many European countries, such as Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia, have negative population growth due to low fertility rates since the 1970s
