Ofcom Urges Social Media Giants to 'Act Now' in Response to Escalating UK Unrest
The UK's communications regulator, Ofcom, has issued a stern warning to social media platforms, urging them to take immediate action to curb the spread of misinformation and inflammatory content as unrest continues to grip various parts of the country. The call comes in response to rising tensions and incidents of violence, which have been exacerbated by viral posts and videos circulating online.
In a statement released today, Ofcom emphasized the critical role that social media companies play in maintaining public order and protecting the integrity of information during times of crisis. The regulator highlighted that platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and TikTok have a responsibility to ensure that their services are not used to incite violence, spread false information, or escalate tensions.
