During her victim impact statement Woodhull's mother, Linda Castle, said when went to retrieve her belongings from her car they found divorce papers inside, reported KSTP.
The couple was attending a weekly Bible study at Castillo's sister's home on the 1000 block of Maryland Avenue East in St. Paul.
Castillo stabbed Woodhull up to 20 times with a six-inch blade after he had whispered something in her ear and she shook her head no.
After stabbing her, witnesses claimed the mother-of-five begged them not to let her die.
Prior to the stabbing, Castillo's sister said the pair had been 'acting normally' and that he was holding her hand and kissing her, according to the Pioneer Press.
