Jordan advises citizens to avoid traveling to Lebanon amid regional tensions
Jordan on Friday strongly advised its citizens not to travel to Lebanon, citing the ongoing developments in the region.
In a statement, the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, “In light of ongoing developments in the region and the safety of Jordanian citizens abroad, they are urged to avoid traveling to Lebanon.”
Furthermore, the ministry’s statement referred to a previous advisory issued on Oct. 31, 2023, regarding travel to Lebanon, which was based on the emergency preparedness and plans announced by Lebanese official authorities at the time.
“The recommendation underscores the ministry’s commitment to the safety and well-being of Jordanian nationals,” the statement added.
The statement encouraged Jordanians who are currently residing or present in Lebanon to register immediately on the Jordanian Embassy's website in Beirut.
Moreover, they should also establish communication with the ministry for assistance around the clock, with specific contact numbers provided.
In recent weeks, tensions have escalated between the Israeli army and the Lebanese group Hezbollah, raising concerns about a potential full-scale war following Tel Aviv’s recent approval of operational plans for a “wide-scale attack” on Lebanon.
Tensions have soared along Lebanon's border with Israel amid cross-border attacks between Hezbollah and Israeli forces as Tel Aviv pressed ahead with its deadly offensive on the Gaza Strip, which has killed more than 37,700 people since last Oct. 7.
