#54 Figur: How Jules Robinson Went From Reality TV to Owning 3 Successful Businesses

Some of you may remember my next guest Jules Robinson from Married at First Sight (yes she’s one of the few couples that are still together). I know you guys know how much I love my reality TV, but don't worry, this isn’t about that - Jules is one impressive business woman! She’s the founder of the inclusive and empowering shape wear brand Figur and the owner of fashion label Moira Muse AND the owner of Status Co - a hair and makeup salon set up as a speakeasy bar in beautiful Barangaroo Sydney.

On top of these 3 businesses, she holds a huge social media presence, is also the co-host of the Juggling Act podcast and a book author.

This really sounds like a lot, but what I love about this chat is how authentic and down to earth Jules is, and her positive attitude towards her business challenges really makes you feel like “yeah it’s all good, we got this”.

  • #63 The Daily Edited & In The Roundhouse: How Alyce Tran Built 2 Multi-Million Dollar Consumer Brands That Started as Side Hustles

    38:42
My next guest is the founder of two iconic consumer brands - The Daily Edited and In The Roundhouse. The Daily Edited started as a blog in 2001, but then pivoted into an accessories brand that since has grown to 8 figures and dominated the personalisation space in Australia. Alyce has subsequently sold her stake in the business to her co-founder. She then went to a role working on strategy for LTK, one of the world’s largest influencer marketing platforms. She couldn’t shake off the entrepreneurial bug and started in the the roundhouse, a very on-trend conversational-print focused dinnerware brand. This side hustle soon grew to a multi-million dollar business! It’s so incredibly impressive how Alyce has been able to build two very well-known consumer brands and how both started as side hustles. We talk about the importance of product development alongside the marketing strategies and tactics that grew these businesses, and more specifically the importance of influencer marketing.@alyce_tran@intheroundhouse@thedailyedited@thelazyceo_podcast
  • #62 YCL Jewellery: How Fabienne Costa Scaled From $500 to $120k Days

    49:23
Today’s guest is the founder of YCL Jewels, Fabienne Costa. A jewellery brand that started with no money and Fabienne hand making everything herself to now being a 7 figure business! In this episode, we talk about how she grew her brand in a highly competitive and crowded market despite no business or design experience, and about why creating customer-centred designs is essential and how one product alone made them nearly $700,000k in one year. I in particular loved hearing about her journey of going from only selling a handful of products a month, to reaching a milestone of her first $500 day, which was her first hint of external validation for the business, to now having $120,000 days! @ycl@fabienne.ycl@thelazyceo_podcast

  • #59 National Fashion College: How to Get into the Fashion Industry With Bryce McIntosh

    39:03
Hey poddy fam, today I chat with Bryce - owner of National Fashion College. What started off with 22 enrolments in Feb 2022 has turned into Australia’s number one industry-backed fashion college – with over 600 brands, businesses and creatives partnering exclusively with NFC and working solely with NFC students!! We’ve been lucky enough to have several students interning at Showpo for their start into the industry and I will say - fashion education has come a long way since I was in school (who knew there was more to fashion than just fashion design ;)). It’s always a pleasure to chat with Bryce, and I’m super excited for what the future holds for NFC! Alright, let’s get into it.@brycemcintosh @nationalfashioncollege
  • #58 Sweat App: Selling the World’s Most Profitable App For $400 Million & Buying It Back

    42:48
My next guest is none other than the fitness queen herself Kayla Itsines! Kayla has a combined following of 44 million on social media (16M on Instagram and 28M on Facebook). Her first foray into business was through her Bikini Body Guide - a PDF of workout routines, which I think most women, including myself, have used! This was then redeveloped into the Sweat App. Despite a few hiccups at launch, it soon became the most profitable fitness app in the world in just 2 years after launch. And it has now been downloaded over 30 million times! A few years ago, she sold her business for a whopping $400 million dollar valuation and has more recently actually bought it back. We get into this transaction, her journey from training women in her backyards to now, how she balances her social media and personal brand with business and being a mum of 2.This was honestly such a fun chat - I love Kayla’s energy so much.@kayla_itsines@sweat@thelazyceo_podcast
  • #57 Peppermint Grove Fragrances: How Hannah Drury Built a $40 Million Fragrance Empire in a Saturated Industry

    56:00
My next guest is a very dear friend of mine Hannah Drury. We’re actually each other’s bridesmaids. Hannah is such a powerhouse! She’s the founder of Peppermint Grove and Moss St Fragrances, which is stocked literally everywhere, including Myer, Bloomingdales and Galeries Lafayette. You go into any store that has a home fragrance section, you’ll see one of her brands. Not only this, she also white labels, as manufactures for a lot other brands in the industry. Hannah’s built this to be a $40m million business and then tragedy struck at covid, when she lost control of her supply chain. This was a pretty tough time that we lived through together! But she picked herself right back up and turned lemons into lemonade. Yep she seized on the opportunity and started making hand sanitisers. And it was also the catalyst to really focus on her eComm business. But the major turning point was the vertical integration of her business into the expansion of her perfumery business, which now has over 5000 fragrances in the fragrances library, and is achieving incredible double figure growth year on year. Of course I always love chatting to this one, you may need to turn the volume down because she’s one of the few people in the world louder than me, but you will absolutely love our chat!
